Looking for an alternative to reddit

  • When I go out, we dont sit on our phones. But im middle aged. Me and my friends talk and make bad jokes and laugh a lot. If someone would sit on their phone, they would get made fun of. :)

It just sounds like you dont have that chemistry together, the one that makes you want to laugh just seeing the other guys.

I dont know what kind of questions you ask, but last time i was out, we talked about how crazy women have become. A lot of laughs there, believe me.

  • Yeah. It used to be easier to find those like minded people online, and I guess it still is. But we humans need real life friends to feel good.

  • Yeah thats horrible. Social media has changed how people act in real life for sure. I guess if they are rude to people online, they also feel like its fine to be rude to people in real life.

This guy talks a lot about this topic and I think he is straight on point. Perhaps a bit too negative sometimes but i get it. Its a battle to not get influenced by this. https://youtube.com/@dapperdev

  • So many... This will be downvoted :) Go guys!

    • Our bodies immune systems are enough to fight covid unless we are unhealthy, most people therefore dont need to vaccinate.

    • Nasa is definently not curious about actual human-like life in space and never intends to share any findings like that with the public. But its great for looking at rocks and microbes, things that will not change humanitys view of themselves as alone monkeys in space.

    • There are other dimensions where non-physical spirits exists, like ghosts or dead family members. Some mediums are real and can communicate with them.

    • Earth is a place where human souls go through a lot of challenges. How we treat others is meaningful and important for our souls.
  • Yeah its great. I think I use the Ultimate version even.

I dont know why you think speed is an issue. Its not like the ad blocker needs to search every item in the list to find it. Internally they all store these domains as binary trees so the right match is found very quickly.

  • Depends on the topic and what its about. Ive seen topics like that here. Any topic about covid vaccinations - only one opinion allowed (you must vaccinate for the good of all) or you are a piece of trash. :)

But most topics are not like that. Maybe politics, I dont follow that since its pointless.

  • I think its a thing now to surround yourself with people who makes you feel good. So if those people stopped talking to you, you probably didnt have a very meaningful friendship that felt valuable for both people. Thats ok, and thats how life is.

Actually most people we meet become strangers with time, as we change, they change, and we need different people in our lives at that time. Its very normal.

  • Social media is doing more mental damage to people than ever before, and they still cant stop using it.

The thing is, I dont want to hang out with people in real life that has gotten their minds twisted by social media either. So its reinforcing the idea that its easier to just not hang out with people.

On the other hand, people in real life are actually still acting normal, at least in my life. Young girls say hi, they are not hostile, maybe just a bit more careful to not act too friendly, which is fine since it can be misunderstood by guys.

The online version of people is a lot more horrible.

  • This is like "upgrading" from a Ferrari to a Ford.

  • Totally agree. What the fuck is a society that just cares about money and not people. Its not worth surviving.

  • Im about 15 years into fulltime Linux, man... :)

  • I will gladly give up a few games for running an amazing operating system instead of windows shit. :)

  • Grab dumbbells.

    Raise them.

    Lower them.

You can do it. Above is a bit of a joke but there are millions of YouTube vids showing how to do an exercise. Its very simple, you dont have to be worried. :)

I started in January, now I have done 90 sessions soon. Body feels strong, clothes look much better, your posture will also improve, and your confidence.

  • Every time I hear a story like this, someone being in pain for years, surviving in a bed thanks to drugs and machines, I just have to wonder if this is what humans should do...

Im only middle aged right now so maybe my opinion will change when I get older but currently i would rather die earlier than being kept alive in a bed like this.

Anyway, its besides the point of the post. I hope you feel better soon. Losing a parent feels very empty.

  • Sure, probably shouldnt take advice here without double checking, but human beings actually have experience in their lives with having pets.

Also human beings like to share those experiences with eachother.

  • Name one world leader except Trump that can make the stock market crash by speaking... :)

We dont have any big leaders in Europe that most people know by name even.

Its all talk about Trump, Musk, Zuckerberg over here too. Like mini America. There is nobody here who is saying anything people care about. We dont even know their names.

  • I had a system freeze during pacman update a few weeks ago and I couldnt get into any graphical environment anymore. It would just hang at boot.

With the help of chat gpt, I got instructions how to fix it. It took over an hour. Many system libs had 0 size all of a sudden so they couldnt load. Chat gpt got me through the process of reinstalling it all from the cache, keeping all config settings.

But that was the first time that ever happened in over ten years of arch.

Without chat gpt it would have been a full system reinstall, losing all settings, since I didnt know how to do what it suggested.

  • I mean, sure, you can brick the system if you do something stupid probably. I never did but I dont take risks.
