  • I would support GN opening a PeerTube channel (and I would watch their PeerTube channel), I just don't think it's viable to completely move off YT at this point.

Regarding monetisation, we of course will have to radically change internet monetisation models with a bigger focus on scheduled donations (for the platform and content creators) and a perks system for incentives and perhaps a bit torrent-enhanced style distribution system. But this is a long term thing, there is the here and now.

  • No insults intended. Apologies if it came off that way.

The market share dynamics, UI/UX issues (average person finds federation to be a difficult concept) and lack of an "easy to pick up" monetisation system make PeerTube non-viable as a sole distribution source for a commercial (or even part-time income) channel.

I would argue the market share difference is by the far the biggest factor (other factors can arguably be accounted for with varying degree of success).

  • It was a joke. You can't seriously think that PeerTube is viable alternative to YT (as a sole distribution channel).

I say this as someone who does use PeerTube for a few content creators that mirror from YT.

  • I am on the Threadiverse, so it is a reasonable assumption that I use the internet....

  • Can't hurt to cross-upload, the reality is that GN would need a YT channel to be commercially viable, but I think they are better positioned than most to use PeerTube as secondary channel.

  • We would likely need to wait for the full release.

  • Definitely not like spore (at least from all the videos I've seen, haven't tried the demo yet), this is closer to a 4X of sorts.

  • I follow several gaming review content creators (some for 10+ years now), this is more for just released games.

  • That's definitely true, this is more for finding interesting "just released" indie games.

  • I personally have a bookmark folder with different genres (tags) displayed in order of new releases. This seems to be the best method for finding interesting new releases. Also works well for finding indie games that went below the radar so to speak.

I am interested in more niche genres, so there aren't too many updates. I would imagine this method would be unwieldy with a genre like RPG (CRPG works fine though).

  • Cool to see Bazzite open their own FlatPak storefront.

  • The proc gen maps in Diablo 1 worked pretty well IMO.

  • Gunman Chronicles launched on November 21, 2000, and received mixed reviews from critics, which is still a sore point with Flower. "When you see reviews and they're like, 'Oh, this game is too much like Half-Life!' And you're like, 'What, the best game that you ever rated? Too much like that, huh?'" The game sold relatively well, although Flower says he "didn't get rich" off his cut. "I probably could have made as much money painting cars, as far as take-home money. But royalties are taxed at a lower rate, so it spent pretty good."

On one hand, it's already huge success that your game is being compared to HL1, on the other hand, that's one tough competitor.

  • Moddb? I use them as well.

  • Best to move off nexusmods now that it's owned by people with no interest in gaming or mods.

  • The speculation in the article that eventually Unity will be bought by some private equity type criminal group that will destroy the solution seems very realistic.
