a dude that likes gaming and tech (especially Linux) aro/ace

  • The exact same article that the GrapheneOS devs cited, I mentioned the other news coverage, but didn't find it necessary to cite every article, since the point I'm making still stands.

  • The police's job is to enforce the laws that be, and be bound by them. The legislature, in france's case, the assemblée nationale and sénat, write the laws. As an example, french law enforcement can't force signal to break their encryption, but the legislature could.

  • The point I'm making is that law enforcement trying to break into encrypted phones, and news orgs coverting that isn't "the government targeting them". There is a distinction between "the government" and law enforcement.

  • I mean yeah, but that's an article from a private company that says that law enforcement is going to try to hack into criminal's phones. Which, like, duh.

The person being interviewed explicitely says that since there are legitimate users of the service, they won't take the same approach they did with services used only by criminals.

they're saying that if grapheneOS is found to be explicitely working with criminals they'll take measures against the org, which is completely reasonable.

  • Law enforcement doesn't make the law, they just enforce it. When you say "the government" you imply the legislature is part of what you're talking about.

  • Yeah, but the they is law enforcement, not the government.

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

No, graphene isn't being targeted by the french government.

  • ooh I didn't realise that instance was local for me, I might have to move my account

  • Depends what you play, I have a 8gb rx 6600 and I don't really have any problems at 1440p

  • There's quite a few like opterey, incogni or IDX. Not sure if they're any good, but there's tons of companies that do that, probably why mozilla shut theirs down

  • I genuinely can't imagine doing marketing this tonedeaf

  • I see, the situation in montreal is fairly similar, so I assumed it was quebec, language is also a very sensitive issue here.

  • My final year of high school (not in the US) had a finance class that had recently been split off from one part of the "current events" class into it's own thing. We were taught how to budget and handle interest, loans, taxes, savings, ect...

Also a bunch of BS about how big corpos are great and awesome because the teacher made money on the stock market.

I do think it should be a standard class everywhere though, it's ridiculous to not teach that stuff.

  • The idea that everything is a zero-sum game is ridiculous, and I think that a big part of why it seems so widespread is that it lets people dismiss the inequality they see.

"If there was true equality, could I have a house this large? Could I have a house at all?"

  • Beeper's old clients (now called beeper cloud) were based on element, but their new ones are fully inhouse.

  • Let me guess, Quebec? Your experience is the intended effect of those laws lmao.

  • The HUD goggles are starting to exist, not the way you described it but the technology is starting to get there.

  • I personally am fully capable of leading a fulfilling life, it's what I'm doing right now.

I'm not throwing that away to be more "free", it's simply not worth the risk for me.

I will work to get my current society towards more like what I want it to be though. Remember, the UK went from absolute monarchy to democracy without a revolution, if they were able to do that it's possible to do the same with other systems.

  • That makes sense, except that a very simple solution to the "how do I occupy the land" is "kill everyone there", since an anarchist place thing would most likely have less developped firepower since, like you said, militarism sucks for everyone not on top. Thing is, I do really agree with the principles of anarchism, and I think we should strive for a greater devolution of power. Just, maybe in a different way than what's often presented.
