  • Legally it is. On their piracy audits Microsoft only counts the amount of licenses bought and the amount of computers using Windows. They do not care about how it is activated per each computer. They even offer big companies a way to host their own key management system to keep track of licenses they need to buy easier internally.

  • Cryptocurrencies are a tool, similar to how money is a tool. You can't blame money itself for all the scummy shit done using it, similarly for cryptocurrencies.

    Now whether it's about their impact to energy consumption is a whole other deal that I too dislike about it, but it's a really good anonymous funding tool without being under the influence of payment brokers.

  • Pop OS. Don't use much of its custom features since I have installed sway on top of it and did some custom edits, was thinking of switching to another distro but they announced COSMIC, which looks very cool. Why not stick with the distro that could have the best experience with it?

  • You can use a duckdns subdomain as a testing ground if you want to make sure if all things work well before buying a domain. Normally you can also host sites under your ipv4 address too; but it might break stuff on lemmy, never tried it.

  • I have a different issue. For some weird reason after launching Marvel Rivals, Steam itself bugs out and stops showing its window. This specifically only happens on Marvel Rivals and requires me to restart Steam to fix it.

    On AMD+AMD system too, using SwayWM on Pop OS.

    In where I live; no one cares for personal piracy. There have been local tracker owners busted; but the law enforcement did not go after each member individually; even though they could've according to law.

    Legal ramifications? Highly unlikely; unless you're explaining how to break copy prevention methods. That's considered illegal in a lot of countries afaik.

    As for lines you should not cross; I see ethics as more of a concern than anything. If you're trying to learn how to use some software feel free to pirate it; but if you go into the level where you make a significant income out of it; you really should pay for it.

    KDE refers to the umbrella project that houses all the software made for Plasma, like KDE Connect and Kdenlive. The name used to refer to the desktop environment; but now they develop more stuff than the desktop environment.
