  • On Reddit, yes. To the point where I've actually had to self-censor a lot of my comments and tip-toe around certain topics to avoid my comments being nuked from orbit by Automoderator.

    Lemmy? Not really.

  • Lemmy is full of tankies and Linux nerds. It's a different kind of toxic to what you'd experience over on Reddit.

  • The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was pretty damn good.

  • It kinda came out of left field and pissed off all the people that actually liked the sitcom that CAD was becoming.

Also, Tim Buckley's news post commenting on the comic made him sound like an asshole. Cyanide & Happiness actually spoofed the Loss comic but with the guy delivering a snippet of Buckley's post

  • I think he only used C to build the installer. The rest was coded in x86 assembly.

Building anything in x86 assembly is a gargantuan effort, but then Chris Sawyer built a game on the same level of scale as RollerCoaster Tycoon...

  • Well yes, it was in very large part because Froggy had chosen to associate with Sam Hyde, by having them train together for CC2 and plan to collab on their own content. And Ian's beef with Hyde was that he insulted his girlfriend, which was what got him banned from CC1 in the first place.

Ian’s growth has been one of the most amazing things I’ve seen online and I can’t understand people who hate him. They always bring up shit that would, at most, bring me mild annoyance if it was about someone I hated online, but they say that this somehow makes Ian a horrible person. Insane.

My problem with iDubbbz isn't that he stopped doing Content Cop and that he ditched his old edgy persona. I completely understand why he, Filthy Frank and others pivoted away, because none of this would fly on 2025 YouTube.

The issue is that he's a hypocrite.

You don't make this elaborate apology video condemning your past content for its cruelty and "cwy hawassment" at people you don't like, and then proceed to drop a Content Cop on H3 a year later because your viewer count is dwindling and you need to defend your political streamer buddies who had been relentlessly harassing and swatting Ethan on false claims that he and his wife are Zionists.

In his initial Content Cop video, he didn't even once mention CPS, despite using clips from a H3 podcast where Ethan was discussing the time when Snark had called CPS on him over falsified claims (spread by people within their clique) that he was neglecting his kids.

When Ethan's response to the Content Cop was far better than the hit-piece iDubbbz dropped on him, it was clear Ian fucked up.

  • It's more complicated than that. As in Sam Hyde has actually been involved in some of this drama. The creator of this video didn't include footage of him out of being a Hyde or MDE fan.

iDubbbz (Ian) did a documentary on Sam Hyde and they were both trying to make each other look silly with the footage they had. Sam released his edit but it took ages and a lot of pressure for Ian to release his side. After this, they had a falling out which later impacted Creator Clash and ruined Ian's credibility.

Creator Clash 1 was successful, but Creator Clash 2 was very unsuccessful and ended up $250k in the red for a few reasons. One of the big ones is that Ian removed Froggy Fresh from the card (facing a tonne of backlash for doing so) and tried suing him over fees relating to the event simply because he was friends with Sam Hyde, and also over a joke Froggy posted online about signing up to Ian's girlfriend's OnlyFans.

Last year Ian released a video titled "I miss the old iDubbbz" which was kinda prompted by the backlash he got towards CC2. He effectively apologized for his old Content Cop series and for his old edgy humour and acted like he gained a tonne of empathy.

And then... He dropped a Content Cop on H3 about two weeks ago which proved his apology video was full of shit.

H3 (Ethan) used to be friends with Fr0gan and HasanAbi until October 7th, and then they had beef over their stances on Israel & Palestine, he and his wife (who served in the IDF because Israeli citizens have to do mandatory military service) got labelled a Zionist and had been relentlessly harassed ever since. One of the people in their circle spread false rumors that Ethan wasn't cleaning up dog shit and was endangering his kids, and so actually maliciously called Child Protective Services on him. Ian of course omitted all context of this and spun footage in a way that made Ethan look like an unhinged asshole.

  • It's important for the context of why fans fell out with Creator Clash after the second one.

  • Aren't there ways to treat the asbestos and prevent the fibers from becoming airborne and posing a serious risk?

  • Not good. Made redundant a few weeks ago, it feels like recruitment agencies are wasting my time.

  • Look at it this way, I paid £3,290 per year in tuition fees to attend university back when I went. The price of tuition has since nearly trebled to over £9k.

If I paid £9k per year for online courses and was denied the student experience of actually attending a university campus (as many teenagers who went to uni during COVID had to), I'd be fucking livid!

  • Again, depends on why. If there's documented evidence that you were fired for say... refusing to ignore safety laws.

  • Novelty/troll accounts. I've seen a lot of them pop up on Reddit over the years. The most infamous one I remember was one called Gradual_ (yes, the n-word) that would type out ordinary replies that would gradually switch to ebonics.

  • Reasons that are fine to mention: Last job was temporary, I was made redundant.

Reasons that aren't fine to mention: I quit due to overwhelming stress, I was fired for capability/gross misconduct reasons (unless it was an unfair dismissal which you successfully challenged in court and have the documentation to back it up.)

  • Hoog, fern, Thinker and Moon do rather similar styles of documentary content.

rSlash and Mainly Fact are the best "Reddit stories" channels that actually provide their own commentary rather than reading out Reddit posts verbatim with text-to-speech tools, or passing off blatantly fake AI slop hallucinated by ChatGPT as genuine.

Ahoy mainly does documentaries about weapons and how they're depicted in video games, but he's also done some retro gaming stuff too.

Rav is one of the few League of Legends content creators I actually like. He doesn't just lazily regurgitate stream VODs as video guides with clickbaity thumbnails like a lot of creators do. Yes, he uses text-to-speech commentary to narrate his games but his scripts are actually fucking hilarious.

  • 98SE, 2000, XP (Service Pack 3) and 7 were Windows at their peak.

Windows 8 and 8.1 were screwed by Microsoft's insistence at creating a more mobile-friendly OS, when the Metro menu was just bad for the desktop user experience. A lot of disgruntled 8/8.1 users did flock to 10 because having the Start menu back was seen as a compromise to having forced telemetry tracking in your OS.

As for Windows 11, it's getting super shit. Recall AI is being baked into the OS, which will effectively allow Microsoft to snoop and capture data on your computer activity. They claim to not capture sensitive info like bank details or credit card numbers, but I think that's been proven wrong.

Also, 11 is hardly an upgrade feature-wise, yet requires a significantly beefier PC, and was released at a time when the world was still going through a significant semiconductor shortage.

The only real hurdle for widespread Linux adoption is anti-cheat support. That, and either getting Linux versions of industry standard software (Microsoft 365, Adobe CS, 3DS Max, etc) or decent support through Wine/Proton.

  • Lemmy is undeniably smaller but it feels a lot more free, like I'm not walking on eggshells when posting here.

On Reddit I have to mince my words on a lot of subs and be careful about using certain words, lest I want Automoderator to effectively shadowban me. Reddit is ruled by tyrannical power mod assholes who likely got slammed into lockers and beaten for their lunch money in high school, and are now using their role as an internet janitor to exert a repressed power fantasy. And don't get me started on the Tintin-looking supreme cuck who owns Reddit Inc either.

Put it this way, Lemmy is a place where you can post about Luigi Mangione, or about the people involved in Elon Musk's DOGE operation without risking a ban.

  • Kinda limited, in the sense that I didn't have my own computer until about 2006 and just had a "family" PC before then, which my brother and dad used.

One of my earliest memories from the late 90's (I would have been about 8 years old) was making a website on MaxPages, which was one of those build-your-own-website services. Mine listed video game cheats and passcodes. I didn't have much time to add to my page as my computer skills were limited and I didn't get much time on the computer, so I got bad reviews just for not having much content. Some asshole on one of their public chatrooms hacked my account and defaced my site a few weeks later. I think his name was Ray.

For reasons I'd rather not go into, I had a more limited exposure to Flash games and didn't really get involved with Newgrounds until my late teens. Cartoon Network (at least the US/Canada site) used to have a great selection of Flash games though.

By my teens I was playing RuneScape actively (2005 - 2007), then World of Warcraft (2007 - 2012.)
