  • Yeah I wish Framework, Tuxedo or Stillbook produced a Linux phone🤞

  • Yeah it’s part of the 2 factors authentification process.

Back in the days you received some card reader generating a code, but that ain’t the case anymore..

So Linux would need to have a native version of these apps or a way to efficiently emulate Android or iOS.

  • In my country, for all the banks I use, I need to have an app on my phone to access their website with my Linux computer.

So a Linux phone would need to provide this as I can’t be without access to my accounts.

  • It’s Signal and Threema leadership as they were saying it would compromise their security level and would allow Meta to gather information about their users.

That’s a risk I’d be willing to take as long as it’s opt in. For now I still kind of have Whatsapp Business as kind of read only application for some groups I can’t convince to move to another app..

  • My cloud provider (kDrive by Infomaniak) is « green » but I have to admit I wouldn’t know how to self host on it even if I could.

  • Thanks, I know about it but it’s above my technical level and self hosting means having a computer running 24/7 which I don’t want.

I think Signal they (Signal and Threema) missed an opportunity to gain users by allowing an opt-in compatibility with Whatsapp.

  • Agreed as I’m using a Surface Go 1 with typecover (keyboard) as a daily driver with Fedora.

I’d get a used one to avoid giving money to Microsoft.

  • Yeah I’m using Whatsapp Business for groups I can’t convince to move (it allows me to have an automated message to say I won’t answer on Whatsapp), Signal for people who could move but won’t pay anything and Threema for almost everyone else including my family.

I wish Signal or Threema would allow a selected opt in interoperability with Whatsapp so that I could really ditch it.

  • I guess it’s consumerism and people always wanting more.

I’d be happy if the Steam Deck 2 wasn’t released until 2028 as I’ve just got my used LCD in 2025.

  • Other manufacturers adopting Steam OS is a great sign, but it’d be nice to still get a really polished, maybe less powerful, device from Valve.

  • Well good because the Steam Deck ain’t old yet.

I think in 2028, getting a Steam Deck 2 would be nice for the people who want something more powerful and fresh.

2026 would be too early for my taste.

Depending on how powerful the Steam Deck 2 is and its ease of use when docking it, it might become my only gaming system (Steam Deck and Playstation 5 for now).

  • Let’s hope it’s gonna find a manufacturer to build a TV with it, or at least to open its bootloader.

  • Interesting.

Does every smart TV has a hotel mode?

I have a Philips 55PUS7394 and I couldn’t find one by quickly searching on the web.

  • It would be lovely if we could just boot a TV specialized Linux distro.

Sadly I don’t think it’s going to appear soon except if someone (a conpany) decides to create a niche product filling that need.

  • To be honest I don’t think so.

When using Peertube or Xoutube I always use 720p to avoid stuttering.

But for everything else it has been performing well for 5 years.

  • I have a Surface Go1 8GB of Ram with a typecover keyboard and it’s been great running Fedora Workstation for years.

I use it most’y docked to a bigger screen but it’s my daily driver.

  • I understand your feeling as I like the Apple classy touch and would love to find it elsewhere.

I guess you’re gonna have to compromise on something as I don’t know about any laptop bring all of these things.

  • Thanks for the help. Yes apparently Heroic supports achievements through something called Comet. I just haven’t tried it yet as I’m only starting to buy games on GOG.

  • Well I wanted to avoid adding them as non-steam games if it meant losing the achievements but apparently (according to Bjoern), it wouldn’t be the case
