There's a lot to the troika, it's been associated with Russia for centuries. Literally means 'a group of three'.

The configuration of two horses galloping with one horse trotting in the middle allowed for high speeds across vast distances and is commonly referenced in russian literature, particularly authors like Pushkin, Gogol, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, etc.

It's also pretty associated with the trinity (troitsa). Triplicity is a major feature of Russian folklore and culture in general; the three brothers, the three trials, three roads, three kisses, etc.

For revolutionaries it was the smallest organizing unit for a number of reasons and was present in both early anarchist and bolshevik cells. Some advantages were that it was agile, hard to infiltrate, and doesn't need a leader, rather a shared direction. In many ways an anti-hierarchical organizing pattern.

In the Stalin era it got a bit more of a sinister connotation as a 'troika' would be the group of officials signing off on sentences.

For a while now there's been a group of NAFO-adjacent shit-stirrers obsessing over the malign influence of the so-called 'tankie triad' which is lemmy.ml, lemmygrad.ml, hexbear.net. This style of posting has been dubbed 'feudposting', and I'm parodying it in the OP.

The joke I am making is that if you're going for ominous names the 'tankie troika' is way more menacing and russian. I made this meme taking that bit to its ridiculous conclusion.

I'm not trying to be rude either tbh. That said I don't see the danger here that you see. If russia and china are spending money on influence operations on lemmy it's manifestly a waste of resources. There's platforms out there with way more reach and that's why states like the US and Israel are so obsessed with controlling those platforms.

I can appreciate not liking the way people here behave, I do generally encourage people who don't like the vibe to avoid it.

The Democrats and Republicans do differ on the timescales for the social murder they promote, as well as the out-groups they view as acceptable to target.

I can agree that Republicans are causing more harm in the moment. However rather than blaming commenters online for rising voter apathy I blame that on the Democrats for their warmongering, suppression of internal opposition, genocidal 'foreign policy', and their utter subservience to capital when it comes to improving things domestically.

I'm opposed to all states. That said as someone who lives in the west I don't really care to spend a lot of energy being mad about what my governments state enemies are doing.

'democracy' in capitalist states is a cruel facsimile of actual democracy. If you don't have money for rent you might as well be unpersoned, corporations are people and money is free speech.

city government: run by suburban car lovers, absolutely intractable, getting bike or bus lanes might as well be happening on the moon

state government: run by liberals who largely run near or entirely un-opposed. They do good things sometimes, but are simultaneously incapable of forcing municipalities to do good things, and roll over the feds when pressed. For example, no resistance to the fucked up ICE kidnapping campaign that's still going on.

National government is a hot mess and voting in my state has had a zero percent chance of influencing it in every election I've been alive for.

I don't disagree, they have nice features and I hope that results in those features eventually spilling over to similar improvements in lemmy. If it wasn't for the ideological crusade some people are on I wouldn't care at all.

While looking I found this one on hexbear 5 years ago, almost 90 upvotes shitting on stalin for criminalizing homosexuality, and quoting him calling someone degenerate. I read this as extremely critical of Stalin:

I really hope you re-assess both sides, because they are not equivalent.

I understand, there's plenty of problematic posters to go around, the issue I have is that it's normalized calling an instance which is overwhelmingly trans and queer 'degenerates', that's a major red flag, and it's behavior like that which was why hexbear defederated shit in the first place.

The issues I have with piefed are more related to the auto-collapsing comments based on votes, and the terrible search features, particularly its modlog. Seems way worse for transparency to have things that opaque and censorship happening through votes.

Question, do you feel comfortable posting in comms where other people are getting called degenerate roaches?

It's the default setting for the echo chamber that I took issue with.
