  • I have family working in Special Education, most of them with kids under 12, some through early adulthood. All your points are correct. But from what I know of US Education, most schools - or schools in certain states - will not receive appropriate support and the students will ultimately be hurt for it. Think of the implementation of Common Core in the mid 2010s.

Students with proper support and encouragement can accomplish amazing feats, but most students don't have the resources to do that on their own (or with limited support and instruction.)

  • Just because these countries are much more walkable than other countries doesn't mean they don't have a massive car culture.

Germany and cars are the equivalent of Americans and guns. And Poland has a growing car culture that definitely gets overlooked

  • That's why they need all of those consonants, so they can communicate with it

  • Of course lol obviously I want a team member that works hard and is motivated, and ultimately polite and easy to work with. But also, people can change. Things happen in their lives that change their motivations and needs.

If they just want money, that's fine, but I've seen and experienced how pushing someone who is working decently (or great, even) can cause their performance to tank if they didn't want to be pushed in first place.

Managing large teams is less about managing their work and more about managing the people so that they can work more effectively.

  • I don't control the hiring process and I don't control the incoming members of my team, so don't assume I'm an idiot. My team has excellent performance and I was able to get approval for my team to grow from 30 to 60+ people.

IDK why you assume I don't try to encourage my team, honestly. We get good results so I reward them well. For our line of work and our company, we have greater efficiency than a majority of our counterparts in our region. If we performed poorly, I would have a different approach.

We do have people the test the boundaries, so I work with them on it and try to improve it. If nothing gets better, I have them replaced.

  • I've been in a management role for the past 3yrs. I always tell my team that I don't expect more than the minimum stated in our job responsibilities, that I expect us to work as a team when needed, to maintain a moderate balance between their work and their lives, and to try and maintain a positive attitude.

Work sucks, so I don't care so much about motivation, but I want my team to be happy. None of us want to be working, but none of us want to be miserable, either.

Be authentic but learn to be friendly because it helps you and those around you. From a career standpoint, I've seen people go far and make tons of money due to this, even if they weren't the that intellectual or motivated.

  • Nah, because chest compressions in rhythm are the best thing until medical professionals arrive. The degree to which the straws / shields help is minimal at best and actually detrimental at worst.

Also, anyone reading this should get certified. In the US, it takes a couples hours in one day and lasts a year.

  • Actually, please don't. It's Lemmy and we need all the users we can get

  • Personally, I think very few people in life are truly independent and never need help or assistance with something. As far as thriving, I know way more people that are struggling with something like their finances, health, or something else.

I think most people either get lucky early on and their lives generally go well, or they don't get lucky early in life.

Edit: As a child, I thought life was hard but ultimately a good experience if you put in the work and did the right things. As I got older, I realized that my life is mostly bleak but with some good experiences throughout.

  • No, no, we do don't this here. This is bait and it is intentionally misleading. If you want rational discussions, don't present arguments in bad faith.

  • Too late, I studied Finance and National Economics and work in Logistics. Space and evolution are my biggest interests outside of that, though

  • I feel like seeing life before it had been through so many evolutionary shocks would have been neat

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

The various species before the first couple extinction events must have been fascinating

  • You don't remember? It's still 2005, you just somehow took 4 full hits of DMT

  • Conservative dad with great fashion

  • WHAT

  • I would go back and tell myself not to sacrifice certain things just to be high for the day. Don't change the positive things in your life. You should always know you control a substance, don't allow the drug to let you think you're in control. When you start to think you have do something high that you wouldn't if you were sober (e.g. hanging out with friends, spending the day with family, watching a movie, etc,) then that's when you're in very dangerous territory.

  • No. As with all things in life, there's nuance. Your body is different than mine. While I don't have an inherently addictive physiology, I quickly went from practicing moderation to using everyday, to quite literally never being truly sober. And I stopped myself a few times in the beginning - I knew I was slipping, and I held myself accountable and would be better for a time. Until eventually I forgot or was too apathetic, I can't remember honestly
