Well I think it would be cool to be able to fix/edit any inaccurate articles, or pages that may have been messed with by trolls, or to update with more up to date info.

Tbh, I think most people just don't understand that Lemmy is where all the quote un quote "tankies" that got banned or felt disenfranchised with reddit ended up in. They truly believe in whatever they are saying. Some of these people tend to be pro China and or even Russia, AND are real people who actually believe in their ideology and what they are saying, and aren't just foreign agents. As for undermining American social media companies? Tiktok is already one of the most popular social media sites out there.
I think what you're talking about about are social "networking" sites, vs social "media". You could also say that it's a spectrum, some sites are more social media and others more networking.
Anime girl backgrounds are mostly waifu/waifu veneration culture in the anime fandom sphere. Otherwise if motherfuckers were setting full on hentai doujinshi panels as their backgrounds...holy shit, that would be wild and bring up a few questions as to the mental health and porn addiction of the individual involved, unless it was some stylistic repeated Ahegao face collage of some sort for the memery.
