I do a lot of photography and I share it on my Pixelfed.

It's exclusively SFW.

Pixelfed

  • So far so good

I did a photoshoot for a local screamo band at the beginning of February, and sent the pictures off last Friday. The band got back to me with their first batch of proofs for parts of the album art on Tuesday and they're super happy about the shots I gave them. They're not going to use all of the shots I did but they do want prints of a few of them that they're not putting in the album art book which is cool IMO.

Also as part of the agreement to do the shoot I'm free to share the shots as long as I link back to the band.

So I'll be sharing a bunch of them leading up to the album's release starting soon.

  • That repo doesn't, hell it mentions that you need to dump them yourself not even mentioning the possibility of other means.

Not sure about the others though.

  • Literally a smash and grab of OUR assets.

To everyone reading this comment: call AND email your reps, also find local protest. I recommend Indivisible and they likely have a local group in your area.

I've already been to one in my area with them and hundreds of people showed up. There were 2 in my area that day, 1 on each side of the metro area (technically 2 cities that smashed together and are in 2 different states) the larger area had over a thousand show up. We both made the local news and got a HUGE influx of more people involved.

  • Exactly!

Compartmentalizing your online presence is always a good thing.

  • The beauty of this kind of platform (Lemmy) is you can leave one instance that has affiliations you don't like and move to one that has affiliations you like.

For example I have alts on other instances that aren't federated the same so particular instances I see as quite problematic I never see their comments or posts. It makes the whole thing more pleasant.

There's also having multiple accounts that are focused on different things, like one that's focused on memes, one that's focused on news, one that's focused on hobby things, so that you can keep them all separated and isolated from each other. That way, if the account you have for news is going to be particularly in a knee-deep-of-dread situation (like political content) afterwards you can switch to your hobby account and not see that content until you're ready again.

IMO it's good for your mental health as you can take breaks from the dread.

  • It's a fairly common (though fairly uncommon nowadays) trope from older video games (often RPGs) where you end up in a game over state and then you'd be asked if you want to continue (from your last save usually)

TVTropes link talking about it and similar tropes.

  • Beyond reporting and blocking I'll usually take a break or depending on the amount of toxic people I may just leave the platform altogether.

If you find yourself surrounded by assholes it may best just to leave and find a new spot.

  • Funnily enough I've had to block the updates for my WiFi card in my Windows PC for years now as if it updates it just does Bluescreen loops until I boot into safe mode with out networking and remove the driver.

    It blows.

Good news is that Linux handles that card just fine.

  • Thank you!

I'm particularly proud of that one, I was hoping to give a couple other local peaks the same treatment this last year but the conditions just didn't align right with my time off.

There's hope for this year though!

  • Thank you!

Pixelfed is pretty chill overall IMO, especially with how it's algorithm is implemented. Chronological and only what you follow unless you look for things, things it's just chronological.

I'd recommend keeping your work social media accounts separate from personal accounts, it makes things easier to maintain and easier to keep a public image.

  • Laughed my ass off with this line. It's so fucking true.

  • Hopefully your family gets well soon, it really blows when you're the only healthy in a household.

So far so good, I'm finishing a photo project I started last week and the band that commissioned me is so far happy as hell with the images they're getting. They're even going to be giving me a shirt and a copy of their album when it releases.

I can't share the images until they get the ones they're happy with but I'll definitely share those over on my PixelFed when I'm done with them.

I've also got it down to just Lightroom holding me on Windows, I'm planning to learn some of the open source alternatives once I'm done with this project as not only has Windows over stayed it's welcome so has the Adobe suite. My plan is to leave Windows (ideally) before the end of March.

  • $6 for our cheapest dozen eggs at my local store in my neck of the woods in Washington.

So about triple where they were last year.

We have quite a few farms right in the area so the price is normally pretty low.

  • Ah the lovely disposable tools, how I hate these so much.

    Thank you for the info.

  • Meh, I'd still give it a shot to look into fixing it.

At the very least as a learning exercise.

I'm a fan of fixing things and preventing stuff from finding their way into landfills when ever possible.

  • Good news is that carbon brushes are cheaper than a new drill

  • I'm going to second Linux Mint, I installed it on my grandma's computers recently and she's had no complaints in the last 6 months.

Other than trying to get her Epson printer to work (which I only found out about this morning because she uses it so little) so I'm going to try to get it to work for her tomorrow.

I did mention that I'd happily buy her a new printer but she's insisting on keeping her current one. I'm praying I can get it working.
