The sole purpose of critical thinking skills and knowledge of things like history, civics, etc... (whether that comes from education, experience or just good old fashioned intellectual curiosity) is to give the rest of our brain the context necessary to override that lizard brain. (In my opinion).
I'm seconding that opinion, makes a lot of sense. It's so funny, I'm not an American, but I do have friends and family there, yet I find myself outraged by maga and this speed run into fascism. I can't imagine what it must be like living there these days.
Spot on regarding the person vs group. Being a fan of history I'm amazed at how far we've come technologically, but how our base instincts haven't changed. Even in the face of all the evidence about our behaviour historically, we repeat our mistakes time and again.
I get that's been the game plan, and to be honest it's worked perfectly, but poor people actually gloating about "owning the libs" while shooting themselves in the foot, the face and all else beggars belief!
No one can say you didn't see this coming, no one can say the USA hasn't been declining at a free fall pace in all things positive for the people as opposed to corporations and billionaires. No one can say they didn't know exactly the playbook this administration was going to run, it's been online for ages.
No one can save you except yourselves, and it doesn't look like you have the stomach for this fight unfortunately.
It's funny how fast Murica has fallen into authoritarianism, I'm genuinely having a hard time believing that such a large portion of the population can be so stupid.
Depending on where you live in the world America has been pretty bad for a pretty long time. But I agree under this new technofascist oligarchy it will become a nightmare
I had a cat a while back, and when I travelled for a few weeks, my sister, who lives in the same building would make sure she's fed and the litter cleaned etc and spend a bit of time with her. However, my sister told me that Pickett (cat) seemed depressed, and true enough when I got back she gave me attitude for a few weeks, and so I adopted Snowy for her. He basically taught her how to play again, since she'd been seemingly wanting to grow into old age and just sit on my lap and doze happily for hours.
But, I also had another cat in Dubai decades earlier, and she was quite happy being alone. In fact, she didn't like anyone but me (she was a rescue).
I know this one may sound absurd, but how about something insane, like real equality, and another completely insane one, real accountability for politicians, corporations et al.
My cousin in Texas (a US citizen) is freaking out, meanwhile my brother is in Ottawa and loving life. Go Canada!
