For anything important, use matrix instead of lemmy DMs.

  • I'm just saving Planescape: Torment 5 times.

  • Darkest Dungeon (the first)It's fun, but particularly punishing now that most available missions are at the hardest difficulty. Not too sure how long I'll keep banging my head on certain bosses though.

Dave the DiverIt was interesting, refreshing even, but I don't see myself playing too much past the the main story.

Shattered Pixel DungeonI'm playing on my phone, an everlasting classic in my rotation.I do have it on Steam, but I mostly play on my phone, I'm just used to using the Wacom pen (Samsung Note) for this game.A mouse would be fine too, but I usually play this on the couch and not at my desk.

  • I do this but also store the tens in my toes.

  • And then you stumble into an hour long cinematic.Fuck that, Kojima should have made movies instead of games.

  • Bonus if you also can't access settings and it's stuck in a stupid resolution or something.

  • Yea, I was referring to the OSI model.

  • I can't know for sure if they kicked the bucket or not, but they aren't around here anymore.

They seemed like a genuinely cool person and it makes me sad that they might be gone.

They've mentioned accepting and not fearing death, but also wanting to remain anonymous.I won't doxx them, alive or not, but know that it seems someone has since been taking care of what they considered to be their life's work (their words).

May they remind y'all to cherish whatever time you do have.

  • Whatever you do, make sure you have working backups first.

I imagine you could copy the docker volumes over, but that's more work than of they're "mounts", in which case you can just copy the corresponding on the host. Use scp or rclone or whatever to copy the files over

  • So much baiting, the chat bot never had a chance.

  • A single misconfigured thing can suck real bad as you've seen.Selfhosting involves lots of things that can be misconfigured or go bad.

That's not to scare you out of it out anything, merely to congratulate you in seeking knowledge first.

Disclaimer: I'm biased towards networks because I'm a network engineer, opinions may differ.

I would say... having at least a vague grasp of layers 1-4 of the traditional network model is a decent start. You don't need to understand everything, but knowing a minimum will help a lot imho.

It's hard to point you in the right direction without knowing what you already know or not.

  • Yes, your email might be saved in some app you've used to login, including your browser's saved credentials thingy.

  • My guess would be something related to ratelimiting. Lots of mobile provider use the same IP for lots of clients.Obviously don't share your IP on lemmy, but I could look into it more if you share your IP with me on matrix, which is linked in my profile.

  • The email is only stored locally and never used in federation. So that's local admins only, and even then, only if you have access to the database itself.Right now, that would be TheDude and me.

Emails aren't very useful to us admins.Sure, spammers tend to use junk emails, but (some) legit users also do, so it's a bit moot to start looking at addresses en masse.Basically the only time I even see any email address is if they have trouble with the initial verification email. The email is very useful to allow users to reset their password, but that's an automated process, and not something we'd look at.

    Peace

  • I've reinstalled Disco Elysium, but on the Steam Deck this time.I had started a playground a while back, but I took a break after barely scratching the surface.I was too burnt out from work at the time to really enjoyed it, so I parked it and kept it for later.

Playing it on the deck also has the benefit of me not still sitting in my home office after working.

Me not remembering much of the beginning of that playthrough is actually pretty immersive in its own way too.

  • Yea, all my tools deserve use even those that are nice to look at.

  • Don't overthink it, have fun, bring good earplugs. No seriously, there are plugs meant for shows, designed to not butcher it too much, merely attenuate it all a bit.First, you'll avoid tinnitus.Second, it blocks out quite a bit of the other show-goers background noise.

  • Well that's dumb. If you check that box before choosing the community, it still disappears, but it will properly show tagged as NSFW.

  • I’ve not had good luck finding something that gives me the confidence to go about it

Now's a good time to make sure you have good backups.Knowing you can fallback to your backups helps a lot with confidence.
