  • Depends on how you define "further". I'd like to leave this earth knowing I had a positive impact on those i met while I was here. I can sleep easy at night, even dispte all the hardships in my life atm, knowing I'm doing the best with what it is I have. Also, in my early 30's, I started to really internalize the, "having nice things means keeping things nice" i.e. you don't need new shiny things all the time. Take care of what you already have and you'll never be without.

    I can't lie and manipulate my way into being a kind and honorable man, friend, son and brother. Me achieving those things brings me greater peace of mind and satisfaction than anything I'd ever need to lie my way into to get.

  • One of the kids in my grade just happened to be the son of my teacher at the time. He did not like me because the girl he liked was giving me attention. We'll, one day he caught us holding hands (hard-core, I know) so he went to his mom, my teacher, and said I punched him in the face and had been bullying him. I never ever bullied anyone, especially him, and certainly never hit him or anything of the sort. Not once. But it was my word against his and obviously my teacher sided with her son. I had to stay after school everyday for something like 2 weeks. She never treated me the same again. I'm still salty about that. He totally got me. That ginger motherfucker. Jesse, if you're out there somewhere, fuck you.

    If you take it away, the damage you may cause to you and yours sons relationship will FAR exceed the value of a phone.

    Also, and I'm not saying this as an insult, it sounds like this is less about a phone, and more about pride. You didn't get your kid an expensive phone so him having it is a reminder his best friend's patents can afford what you cannot. Maybe tell your child that they are so loved in this world by others that they want him to be blessed by gifts he wouldn't otherwise have. Show him he's a valuable person who has earned such a nice gesture because of who he is and what he means to others. Make sure he doesn't take such a kind action for granted.

    But please, let your boy keep the gift. Him having it means way more than it does to you giving it back.

  • Tool's cover of No Quarter by Led Zeppelin. Page was channeling future Adam Jones with those riffs. It's s a shame that the only official release of that song is on Tool's coveted "Salival" album which is notoriously hard to get ahold of for anything even resembling a decent price if you can even find a good copy. Damn, I wish they would re-release that album.

  • What is your unconventional art?

  • I build cables and it's truly an art for me. My custom cables are used on many of the biggest movies in the world on the production sound carts the sound mixer uses to record everything. I've also wired full professional camera rigs. I've wired many full cart builds from scratch, meaning every power, RF, timecode, video and analog and digital audio cable in the entire cart was built by my hands. If it connects 2 points, i built it.

    I'm going to admit to tooting my own horn here because I've not seen cleaner builds by anyone else. When I begin a build, I plan and visualize the entire setsup and it's organization. It's like a puzzle from the order of operations to the configuration I use based on input from the mixer and gear used. I love it and I approach it as an artist because it truly is. Ive spent many many years learning how to build every single cable you'd ever find on a film set and build them extremely well.

  • Why don't people going to college get HUD, Food Stamps, and free Medicare/Medicaid while enrolled? Instead of the parents footing the bill or the student working 3 jobs and school?

  • I think they mean the nature and true goal of higher education is not to educate, but is singularly profit and make more and more profit each and every semester. Profit above all else but hopefully, but not nessecary whatsoever, an institution's shamefully underpaid and overworked staff has the time or energy to properly teach the next generation their area of expertise.

    Higher education wants $$$ and they know the government and private corporations will issue about any 18 year old kid, fresh out of high school who has been pressued their entire childhood to either go to college or be a homeless prostitute, massive and insanely high interest "loans"

    It's to take from you and burden you with debt that can't be undone, even in the event of personal bankruptcy. Why would this system give money away when they can loan it out for an abusive & permanent high interest loan that would make even a gambling addict blush?

  • I remember for a while back in the late 90's maybe, a lot of kids would have one of those custom airbrushed shirts youd get at a flea market or county fair with their name in BIG BOLD and colorful lettering all the way across the front.

    Little kids playing at their local park could easily be approached by a stranger saying, "hey joey! Your mom told be to pick you up. She's in the hospital and we have to leave right now!" The panicked child follows the man who is seemingly confirmed sent by his mom because he knows his first name, forgetting anyone who's not legally blind within a block of him also knows his name.

    Luckily we don't see much of that these days. Creeps are now limited to accessing merely every single detail of a child's life because mom runs a Facebook or Instagram for their child.
