  • This has to be the most eat pray love meme I've ever seen. Hindus are vegetarian not vegan (disclaimer: they aren't a monolith) and use a lot of ghee (milk product). That brown dude looks like a Sikh; they are typically not vegetarian or vegan.

  • Agreed, or a burner alternate email. If Google didn't give any option other than phone number maybe we could make a case of ill intent.

I think the main driver here isn't that they want your phone (although they're happy to have it, I'm sure), but they don't want the tech support headache of manually verifying and unlocking accounts for tons of people.

  • Can you describe some alternatives to a recovery phone or email? Honest question.

  • Most folks probably would. Privacy is often at odds with convenience.

  • Threadiverse? 🤨 We found zuck's alt, y'all. Just kidding 😁

  • 👋

  • The thing is just because something is posted to the fediverse doesn't mean everyone can see it. For example, we don't see most Mastodon posts on Lemmy.

  • Lemmy can't afaik. Kbin is like Lemmy + Mastodon.

  • How do you follow someone on Mastodon from Lemmy? I'm not sure that's possible. I see you're a kbin user so it's possible for you, but I don't think Lemmy users can.

If Lemmy instances defederate from Threads, it'll just be a symbolic message that the fediverse is anti corporate greed. A good precedent to set imo, but our actual experience probably won't be impacted either way.

What really needs to happen is Mastodon defederating from Threads.

  • How? We don't see Mastodon content in Lemmy unless they specifically tag a community or something. Why would it be different with Threads?

  • As I understand it, reddit's official app was actually a 3rd party app that they bought out, so that just adds to the disingenuousness.
