But that's a generic German meme sub, while the fediverse version is dominated by half a dozen users making memes about their private life. It has a weird-as-fuck soap opera love story between a cow and ramen noodles, hero worship of a bright yellow superhero fighting against parking offenders, and genuinely interesting insights into the German public train system.

  • I haven't lived under it obviously, but here's one from early Nazi Germany:

    Mr. Schmidt returns from a 1-year sentence of political re-education in the Dachau concentration camp.His neighbor asks what it's like inside.

    He says "Oh, it's really not as bad as you hear. In the morning, you can sleep in till 9. There's a hearty breakfast with eggs and bacon. Then you get leasure time till 11, you can read books from the library, do sports or just relax. They invite you to educational or political lectures if you like. Lunch is a 3 course meal. In the afternoon, after another hour of leisure time, you can choose from a wide variety of activities. Dinner is luxurious, and you get to enjoy free time again until lights are out at 11pm. It was really quite enjoyable, and I learned a lot about what great things the Fuhrer and the party are doing for Germany."

    The neighbor is surprised: "Really? That sounds so different from what Mr. Schneider from down the block said. He told everyone it was horrible and inhumane, and that the nazi guards were monsters."

    With weed, what the Dutch model tries to achieve is to not punish people for smoking weed, but also not turn it into a for-profit industry that would create an incentive to get more people addicted.I think the German model is better in this regard: Let supply also be legal, but non-commercial. But they went overboard with the regulations (police can get a list of all consumers at any time, without a court order or criminal suspicion). And it looks like the decriminalization will fail at the last minute anyway.
