  • Its a 3080 bought at release (its a bit newer than the rest of my pc). Was already afraid having an NVIDIA GPU was gonna mess it all up

  • Thanks for clearing it up. It is a slight rant as well I wasted a lot of time haha, I've already removed the Linux partition and made it windows again so I could reinstall my games. As I'm planning on getting my new pc within the next few months (as long as budget allows) I'm not planning on retrying until I have that system.

I've looked up gamescope but can't figure out how I'd get that to work, did put it in my notes for when I'm trying Linux again tho, perhaps a video will clear it up. Thanks!

I tried proton and wine (at least, steam used proton and if I understand correctly Lutris uses Wine?) but both just had the same issue

I had steam installed through flatpak so don't think that was the issue either

  • Thanks, here's to hoping it works out

  • Sadly people like this have been there at every corner when I talk about my issues/reasons for not switching (yet). I still want to, but also think this turns off a lot of people.

That was also my guess certainly with an nvidia GPU. My next pc will be AMD based partially because I really want to make the step to Linux

  • The only way to actually get support with linux issues huh 😂

  • This pc is from about 2022/2023

The games were gold or platinum on protonDB and run fine on my steam deck

Steam / Lutris said they're running, nothing shows up.

Your edit is another reason I actually rather stay away from Linux instead of giving it a chance / asking for help. The community feels way too elitist and insulting to anyone not praising it.

  • I gave up on switching to linux after losing 2 entire evenings setting it up (linux mint) just for my games not to run and not a single solution I could find working.

I'll give it another try once I buy my new PC and set that up, but Linux is not as plug and play as windows and I totally understand that non-IT people want to stay away from it now. The community makes it sound as if everything is almost out of the box simple but that is not the case at all.

  • I was looking into those but settled for Xreal AR glasses to use as a monitor, they aren't amazing but good enough for the price + make it very portable and private

  • Did my phrasing imply they're not? I said a fairer company, they're open about being for profit and are made in the EU with proper GDPR compliance (you never know with american companies, just look at the recent fines for apple and facebook)

  • They'll keep trying, better to move to something like Le Chat to at least support a fairer company.

  • Depends on the level of tired. Currently if I have enough energy I'll contribute to openstreetmap by adding some missing buildings, parkings, opening times, etc. If I don't or I'm in bed I scroll tiktok

  • Perhaps something to bring up on the forums to see if anybody has input on how to do this! I personally haven't had such a bad case locally yet. But you're having a great impact updating it as most likely people pass up on using OSM based services because of it, and by having it up to date it may encourage those people to switch in the future.

  • I'd personally use the web editor at https://www.openstreetmap.org/ Make an account, go to the zone you want to edit and press the edit button. Add a line and once the line is added you can add a type to it (you can check the wiki if you don't know which one to use)

You can enable tracking on streetcomplete that will track your walk/bike/whatever and you can use that as a guide on the web app should it be hard via satellite (do note that this tracking is posted publicly).

  • I do believe as long as you've opened your app to download the quests first it works, although I have not tried that.

You could also look at https://organicmaps.app/nl/ if that has offline editing for maps

  • Enjoy and thanks for contributing!

  • I personally turned off the road width data as I always have to cross the roads and it both feels awkward and is just not that practical imo. But you can use any other measuring app if any exist to get the width and manually put in.

    I'll check out iNaturalist! Thanks!

  • Tomtom Amigo also uses traffic data! Although their dataset is ofc smaller than google maps as less people use it. (Still not FOSS, but at least not google)

  • Every Door works on iPhone

Edit: someone told me https://organicmaps.app/ also has editing functions and it has an iOS app
