  • If you want to talk about underrated look into POWER CPUs.

Motherboards like the tallos 2 are completely open source( except for an nvme storage controller) and they already offer x86_64 levels of performance. The only con right now is software support and the cost.

  • Apparently it can also read any decryption keys read by the cpu.

  • Honesty just reading them all doesn't take long as they aren't super long or wordy, and then you know what the terms for using any FOSS software is just by looking at what the licence is

    1. It feels great
    2. Terminal programs run on a potato
    3. They are almost always way more powerful then their GUI counterparts
    4. They integrate with scripts and other tools for unlimited power and flexibility!
    5. You feel like a hacker man
    6. Your IT literate friends think you are cool
    7. You can really do things your own way

So yeah I love using the terminal for almost everything

  • But at that point as much as I hate to say it you're probably better off with a cheap windows laptop.

As at least you can get updates till the hardware no longer supports it.

That's a lot less wasteful then making something and planning when it won't work anymore.

  • I wouldn't buy a Chromebook, but at least they let you use non web apps on it.

I still don't get why every Chromebook has a preset expiration date for when it will stop getting updates. That really seems like a great way to make lots of ewaste. Especially since they lock down the bootloader so well.

  • Of course they do. It's just they're no longer afraid of telling us they are

  • Why is this whole platform obsessed with twitter. I thought people came here to get away from mainstream social media, not hang on every little detail of how a rich dude mismanages his latest purchase.

  • Lolcat, yt-dlp, hyprland. Honesty though most of what I find cool these days wouldn't make any sense to a Windows user. Like DWM, ST, XBPS, lf, ly, neovim, etc.

  • I mean Linux is for everyone. But I think the majority of users are probably straight males. I think the trans/fem boy stereotype is more of a community inside joke( not to say there aren't people of those demographics in the community, and that they aren't just as welcome as anyone else, but the joke being that Linux will make you trans/a fem boy).

Though I have seen legit trans people like you say they enjoy Linux so it could interestingly be a demographic that is particularly attracted to Linux for whatever reason.

  • When you get more advanced you can use a distro like System Rescue to fix your bootloader instead of having to reinstall everything

  • I use DX, and it's a really great app with some great features like:

    • fingerprint unlocking
    • A dedicated keyboard for selecting and entering credentials to avoid security problems with the system clipboard
  • Easy solution don't use it!

Honesty though aren't there laws to prevent companies from behaving like this, or are they paying the law makers too well.

  • The difference is twitter is just another big social media platform. Elon Musk isn't potentially trying to ruin an open source federated alternative that fixes a lot of the problems with social media. He's just messing around with and tanking a big corpo social media site.

So I honesty don't really care about twitter as it will get us more users if he burns it down, if the Zuck doesn't ruin us first.

Basically twitter isn't a threat to us and could actually be a big help.

Threads could ruin everything we've worked for.

  • I wouldn't expect logic from the company that now acts like unreal and unreal tournament which made them the company they are today don't exist. Like seriously you delisted all of it. What is wrong with you!

  • So basically nvidia makes their drivers on Linux a pain to install and use and Linux's creator has called them out on it in the past. So PopOS is known for having tools that make getting them working easier.

AMD on the other hand has open source drivers so they are right in the kernel. So their GPUS are just plug and play like a USB mouse

  • And nothing of value was gained

  • Well for one they made certbot which is a system that can get any website a free SSL certificate( which you need to have HTTPS on your site). So that's one great thing millions of people use

  • But is that a problem for the threat model of banking as your bank logs everything you're doing and will gladly share that with the government anyway. My question is is there any other possible data they could gather besides the VPN server's IP address and what I'm doing with my bank?
