  • Science and Logic day! 23rd of January. Or 12th of March

Celebrations include home science projects, appreciation of scientists and professors, local interactive educational scientific events, etc

The affects would be appreciation of truth and logic which would fight the misinformation issues that we currently have, and it will also serve to educate people and inspire them to seek further education and understanding.

  • Adoptability

Basically become one of those cats that walk into a house and no one makes them leave

  • To reduce gas with beans:

    • soak with baking soda (1tsp per cup of beans)
    • before cooking boil some water and in a bowl cover the beans with the boiled water, after 5 minutes drain and wash them and throw them in to whatever you are cooking
    • ferment the beans, best results but more work

Also remember that as your body gets used to it, the gas is reduced.

  • Anything exposed to the internet gets a daily / weekly update, depending on how exposed it is, how stable the updates are and how critical a breach would be. For example nginx would be a daily update.

Anything behind a vpn gets a more random update schedule mostly based on when I feel like it (probably around once a month or every other month)

  • Tip, look at second hand sites/fb marketplace (i know 😒) you can find great deals.

  • Attaching things, hanging things, making custom items such as a keyring, lifting or carrying things, dog leash if you find a stray, and more.

  • Rope.

Buy some rope, like 3 different sizes: 1-2mm, 4-6mm and 10-12mm. Watch a few rope videos and then throw the ropes in some drawer. Every now and again you will have an issue that the ropes can fix.

As a kid I once got a 15mm*40m rope for my birthday from my uncle, I thought it was the weirdest thing, but over the years I used it so much that these days I consider it to be one of the best gifts I've ever received. And as long as you don't need them for anything related to safety, they basically cant expire.

    • age limit on public representatives, probably the same as retirement
    • voting is completely changed to a ranking system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_transferable_vote
    • hire a bunch of actually qualified people to run each office and governmental positions
    • a bunch more shit that I dont feel like writing
  • Yeah no... I was not kidding, literally the second I swallowed the first bite I felt perfectly fine. That can't be anything related to metabolism.

  • Maybe, show me a fashionable ghost, I might believe in it.

  • I once wanted to see how long I can go, at 32 hours I felt like I was about to die so I stopped. Literally one bite made all of the terrible feeling go away and to this day it both annoys me and freaks me out that it was all psychological.

Like seriously brain? Couldn't handle not eating so badly that you decided to make me feel like shit? But also damn, if that's how I felt about not eating, addictions sound much scarier now.

  • So many ways, it's almost unbelievable that it still works

  • Yes because I will immediately work on making a sustainable democracy, eventually having checks and balances

  • Ollama + open webui + tailscale/netbird

Open webui provides a fully functional docker with ollama, so just find the section that applies to you (amd, nvidia, etc) https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui?tab=readme-ov-file#quick-start-with-docker-

And on that host install netbird or Tailscale, install the same on your phone, in tailscale you need to enable magicdns but in netbird I think it provides dns by default.

Once the docker is running and both your server and phone are connected to the vpn (netbird or tailscale) you just type the dns of your server in your phone's browser (in netbird it would be "yourserver.netbird.cloud" and in tailscale it would be "yourserver.yourtsnet.ts.net")

Checkout networkchuck on youtube as he has a lot of simple tutorials.

  • Just the fact that it costs means that most people won't even consider it, making it very hard to recommend.

  • It is not as good as a decentralized system, and even though the server is open source, it isn't self hostable (technically in an intranet you could but not easily)

But the signal foundation is a non profit with external audits and a proven track record with law enforced requesting data and getting basically nothing (If i remember correctly they only have your user to phone number relation and the last time you were online)

So although it is imperfect, it is an amazing solution that is almost the only 1:1 competitor to whatsapp/messenger/imessage that is privacy respecting, so I am very grateful for it's existence.

  • Just like any foss project, there some level of trust if you are going with the main distribution. In theory you are correct that not much is stopping them from releasing a malicious update, but because it is open source, soon enough people would notice that either they released new code that is malicious, or that the new version does not match the source code. That kind of scenario is known as a supply chain attack.

Since the code is open, you can literally read it for yourself to see exactly what the apk does. You can also fork it and modify it however you like, just like the creator of Molly did (Molly is a fork of the Signal client that adds some security features)

  • Gonna get hate for this but...

The one thing I think LLMs are actually super good at is helping you find the right terms for things that you don't know how to find.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

People who lost a parent they truly disliked but were still in contact with, how did you feel?

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

Apparently, the mods at Linuxsucks are really sensitive?

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

Pump and Dump makes more sense to mean "anal douch" than a type of fraud

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Imperial units people, Do you sometimes get confused about time units as well?

  • Memes @lemmy.ml

40C is good for a sauna, why not my brain!?

  • Selfhosted @lemmy.world

Should I bother with HTTPS over Tailscale?

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

Best DE for touch screens but also normal use

  • Asklemmy @lemmy.ml

Is it wrong for 25M to date 19F?
