Hi! I'm British, I like music (grime, garage, hip-hop, R&B, and more!). I like art, culture, history, politics, & doomscrolling memes.

Also a touch of programming :)

  • Without electoral reform, there's no functional reason to. The lesser evil of the current system is Democrats. If you want to enact change, push support for the progressive wing of the party and push for electoral reform.

  • It's worse here too because you can actually filter out the memes from r/piracy, Lemmy has no such feature since it still lacks a flair/tag system

  • None of the other options were all that great to be honest

  • More pizza delivery drivers get shot than cops

This is more of a America problem than a pizza guy problem.

  • The real, most simple answer is: you wouldn't, at least not unless we shift into a world where there are significantly less languages.

Any world government would have to contend with the reality that the world is full of multiple languages. So a number of lingua francas would be chosen as the "official languages" - either the most spoken or the most politically important (probably one and the same).

The idea to create some sort of apolical, unproblematic language just isn't realistic. If it was, it would've already occurred on a mass scale. You could just as easily paint an artificial language in a negative light as you have with English: any artificial language would be taking up the place of a real, authentic language and imposing itself onto peoples who do not speak it (language imperialism of an artificial kind isn't much better).

Besides, translators are only getting better and better and we already have a number of multi-national institutions that function fine despite the number of languages at play (e.g the EU).

  • Warning, Sync seems abandoned and some features are broken, e.g read posts don't stay hidden. I'd recommend Boost, Summit, Jerboa, or Thunder

  • Go into your settings and stick the "hide read posts" option on for improved browsing.

  • They also support their games for over a decade.

Also you can buy the base games and then just pirate the dlc. All dlc can be downloaded off of cs.rin.ru forums. I do this because modding the games through workshop is just worth the price.

Then you run creamapi to unlock the dlc.

    No need to buy them.

  • Lemmy is definitely rough if you're into niche communities, true. So was Reddit in its early years though, to be fair.

  • That's not true. I've got a pretty active feed of subs, you just need to spend time curating a good list

  • Just like Reddit, you need to curate your feed. Don't browser all/local, browse your subscriptions. Here's a list of subs that aren't political https://lemmy.world/post/16327122 - subscribe to ones that interest you.

Also feel free to liberally block communities. It's trivial to do.

  • There's uh, lots more than 2. It's similar to how there's English English and Nigerian English, just dialectical differences - some more major than others.

  • I find Lemmy isn't super at pushing newer content at the top, and you have to just mix between the different sorts. The content is definitely there. The alternative way to mitigate this is as follows:

    • In my settings I have "show read posts" unticked. This ensues posts I interact with (e.g click on, vote on) with disappear from my feed afterwards (upon refresh/reload, of course). I don't think it clears posts that have appeared in your feed but you haven't interacted with. This is extremely effective in keeping your feed fresh.
    • When browsing on my phone (Boost For Lemmy), I make frequent use of its "hide all read" button to quickly gut anything on my feed that I've seen before (no interaction needed).
    • You can, of course, just manually hide posts as you go but uh, the above methods are better at automating that process for you.

I used to get really annoyed with stale feeds but upon doing the above it's pretty much always fresh content.

That said, it won't hurt to subscribe to more communities!

  • Performance isn't great apparently. Shame

  • Lol people have been "ditching" Firefox for various reasons for years. If you can barely get people to ditch Chrome, good luck with making some ff fork relevant.

  • Fair enough, I did read more info this and it seems to be a regional thing. Maybe a VPN might fix it but shrug

  • It works fine, you just need to download an old version in order to login. It doesn't let you login in the latest version but you can update it once you are logged in

  • XManager still works fine for Spotify
