  • I subscribe to M365 because my kids’ schools all distribute their assignments as Word docs. And they apparently use the most obscure formatting features, so the only way to get them to render and print properly is to use full Office desktop. Not even the web apps show them properly, and LibreOffice / google docs import totally mangle them.

  • This map is completely meaningless. The local value of “one money” in each country’s currency varies massively. A Coke might cost 1 dollar in Australia but cost 1000 won in South Korea, but Australians make 50,000 dollars per year while South Koreans make 3,500,000 won per year.

  • Only if they are well-known in the language you’re using or domain you’re writing for. x and y are fine for coordinates. i and j are fine for loop indices. But abbreviating things unnecessarily is bad IMO. s = GetSession() is too terse, for example.

  • Don’t be so quick to dismiss the feedback from compliance teams. It’s possible TOU are written such that you really can’t store data on the client without agreement. It’s also possible that other regulations besides GDPR apply that you may not be aware of, for example those specific to banking or health.

  • I agree there’s nothing consistent, but having 3 as a factor in ratios does make things nicer - it lets you stick with integer numbers for more things. I’m not saying it’s better than metric, but I do think having more small factors in ratios is nicer than having only the factors 5 and 2.

    Imperial unit ratios tend to have a greater number of smaller factors, which makes fractions nicer. 1yd/3 = 1ft. 1ft/3 = 4in.
