  • My dad was 50 when I was born. It may be the case that the generational gap between me and him is larger than most of my peers, but that's not a terribly large issue. There are far worse things than being a bit out of touch. Maybe it's a wake-up call to take as good care of your health as possible so that you can still be active into your son's 20's and maybe even 30's, but otherwise I don't really see any great issues.

  • Mr Walsh you are not welcome here

  • You can't talk about women like that bro

  • Bluesky has an active community posting for 50501 and the organizers have a discord and a subreddit.

  • I think Lemmy is at an all-time low for patience towards non-conformist opinions due to recent events being... upsetting. Give it some time and folks will be more willing to consider other ideas i think

  • Switching to Ubuntu from Windows is the most controversial thing I've ever done. I don't even talk about it very much, but some of my friends preemptively make passive aggressive comments about it if the subject of OSs come up and jump on any opportunity they find to make a case for Linux being less convenient than Windows. I haven't felt this way since I tried vegetarianism.

All that's to say I'm pretty wary of "helping others see the light." There's more than apathy out there and some people feel threatened by the idea of someone else taking steps to rid themselves of their dependence on Microsoft and the like.

  • Seems terrifying to have your car resist your driving

  • I'm still working on it but I'm decent at rolling a coin across my knuckles

  • Test with a VPN and report back

  • Can you get in touch with the other colleagues that were let go alongside yourself and ask what they're doing? Maybe they've found something and will put a good word in for you.

  • You would have references from your current job, even if you're cartoonishly unlikeable. Keep light contact with people you get on with even (probably especially) after they part ways with the organization you work for. If/when you need a job, ask those people if they know any leads you might follow.

  • I do but I don't have it with me. I thought the original looked much more ergonomic. Maybe it's the angle.

  • A few hurricanes and the Texas snow storm

  • A hurricane has experienced ME

  • Yeah, it is. That's why I felt it was an appropriate response to the question. Because I hate to admit that it still bothers me.

  • Gaming with the homies. I ought to be able to get a couple dogs one day. I'm getting better at cooking. I meet new and amazing people every now and then.

I do my best to steer the world in the direction I'd like to see it go, and I try take pride in the effort, not in the results. The destination might look dark now but you can still enjoy the journey. I hope that makes sense.

  • Would you clue me in on what kind of extensions you use and why they're better that the discord app?

  • I'll never have the cathartic moment I was dreaming about when I was a teenager where I learn martial arts and get to beat the crap out of some massive asshole who totally deserves it and everyone in the room would agree. I did the hard part of learning martial arts but I'm just not hot-headed enough to fight someone anymore. I resolve conflicts with words and any time I've had to defend myself, I've just kind of been able to separate myself from the initiator without really hurting anybody and they gave up once they didn't have a hold of me. There aren't many realistic scenarios where I have absolutely no choice but to hurt someone, and I can see those scenarios ahead of time and avoid them anyway.
