  • I moved from gmail to Apple mail. I know this is not ideal for privacy but it is better than 2 parties having access to my data.

    I want to move to a more privacy focused provider but I get unlimited aliases with iCloud+ at very cheap.

  • I agree with the summaries part. It does reduce the amount of traffic for websites.

    I am not sure if it was intentional to make the search bad. Search was getting worse even before AI. And why would you make your customers consider another product?

  • Lost. It taught me many little things about how to live life. One particular thing which I think was the most influential was Jack’s father asking him to feel the fear. It was something like “It’s okay to feel fear. Feel all the fear you have for 5 seconds (count to 5) and then don’t look back”. I might have messed up paraphrasing a lot but the meaning is still there.

  • A lot of scientific breakthroughs are made like this. Internet was made by the military. Rockets were made because we were trying to outarm each other.

    While it would be best if we didn’t kill each other, the optimised outcome is getting scientific progress while killing each other. The silver lining of concentration camps is the human experimentation which gave solid evidence for solid science.

    I imagine that we would be more scientifically advanced but more radical, less liberal.

    However, everything eventually changes over time. The world has managed to steer towards fascist regimes after the win of USA in WW2. It is not impossible that Hitler would have made us more liberal today.

  • I have used pi-hole recommended config. I have used unbound recommended config (which feels incomplete and confusing). I have tried tweaks here and there. End result is this.

    So far, the longest I have had success is with unbound docker container. The issue with that is that it seems to not be caching entries.
