  • I agree. It is an ancient, ancient symbol in many cultures. I had Hindu neighbors that put swastikas on their door during Hindu festivals and prior to the Nazi rise to power it was just a symbol of good luck in the West.

    Also they ruined the toothbrush mustache. Once during the end of a no shave November I decided to see how I would look with that mustache... and I honestly thought it looked good on me.

    But I knew I had to shave it off because there was no way I could keep it. Made me hate Hitler more than I already did.

  • The privacy laws don't apply to private companies, and that is the problem. When many privacy rights were written they were originally intended entirely for governments as private individuals and companies generally didn't have the ability to do much in those days. But my god have things changed.

  • I am not American. But given that I have flown on at least one of those airlines. I didn't normally fly to the US, but it did happen. Meaning now ICE has my info on those.

    The laws need to be updated to be as hard, if not harder, on private companies. And absolutely no 'agree to this or you don't get to use our product' bullshit.

  • Advertising is the reason why privacy is nonexistent now... it is kinda incredible just how much information they gather.

    In centuries past when people were writing constitutions and what rights people have they had privacy and warrants and spying and all that shit done based on what evil governments can do to their citizens. I don't think a single one of them ever realized just how fucking massive corporations would be and how much shit they steal from us.

  • You don't know half of it. The sheer amount of overwork farmland is going through world wide is causing soil depletion like no tomorrow. We may even end up seeing a full blown worldwide famine in some years time when it gets to the point that we simply cannot revitalize farm land.

    We produce such an incredible glut of food it isn't funny. If we took all the surplus that we make we could feed the whole of China for an entire year. That is how much is being thrown to waste.

  • Yeah I remember those. Where I grew up that style of ring pull was the dominant style.

    One reason why that style was retired in many places was to reduce waste. When you had a ring pull tab that peeled off, most people threw that away separately. I remember seeing those tabs being thrown all over the place.
