  • Sounds like you really missed out

  • Maybe there were dual booting Windows and then a Windows update broke the boot partition

  • just wanted you to know I actually chuckled at that!

  • I found the Lorex brand of products that stores footage locally. Internet connection is not required either, as it is either hardwired or paired directly with the NVR wirelessly.

  • Just out of curiosity, which distro did you end up using?

  • You could probably stretch it to 10-12 hours if you turn all the hardware kill switches to off, which activates "lockdown mode." It turns off every sensor on the device.

  • I daily drive a Librem 5. First thing to note is do not expect a well polished experience. Battery life is bad, only about 4 hours of light use, and 8 or so hours if left in suspend. It can do VoLTE, send SMS, use web apps and any apps coded with libadwaita or kirigami. Other desktop apps can be forced to scale on the display, but it won't be perfect.

I use Signal desktop as my main means of communication on the Librem 5. I have a spare normie phone for setup, but Waydroid is an option. I do use Waydroid for a few apps that have no web browser equivalent.

Idk, all I can say is, you have to really want it to live with it. I don't do gaming or heavy social media use or anything removed that, so it is just fine for me. But it's definitely not for everyone.

  • More like they became an anxious doctor who spiral into self hate whenever they make basic mistakes.

  • I do the same. Some websites will not work claiming Firefox is not supported, but do some user agent spoofing and suddenly it works just fine. Just goes to show it is not actually the web engine that's the problem.

  • Proprietary. Whoever paid for our server did not spring for the premium version where every planet has sentient alien life.

  • As someone dailying a Linux phone, I will say that there were no issues getting it to work on T-Mobile. The only thing I did was manually enter the APN details, but that was an OS thing.

From what I have seen on forums Verizon won't let you at all, and AT&T might take a bit of work to get them to whitelist the IMEI on their network.

  • To answer your question about Android apps, there is an application called Waydroid that can run on Linux phones. This essentially emulates Android and you can install apps on there. Some Play Store apps require access to Google Play Services, and even though MicroG tries to emulate it without being as privacy invasive, it is not perfect and some apps won't run well or even at all.

I only use it for a few things that do not have any way to access through a web browser.

  • Whatever map that uses Eurasia rather than pretend Europe is it's own continent is fine by me

  • For Arch users it's only 5 minutes. MX Linux users it's 3 1/2 minutes.

Edit: I actually meant to say NixOS users, but MX Linix users probably feel the same.

  • I have actually seen one IRL. There was a local shop that worked exclusively on Prius' and they had made a stretch Prius similar to the picture.

  • I've watched a couple videos on some of the dumb phones listed, as I was curious about alternatives as well. The ones that can install Signal are not true dumb phones and have android installed.

What sets then apart is the physical form factor is still very much dumb phone. That means it typically has a smaller screen, and a number pad style keyboard.

  • Depends how pedantic you want to be. A large portion of Russian land is in Asia.

  • My MAGA family member sent me an instagram post of a screenshot of a Mayo Clinic article headline that said measles prevents some forms of cancer, so we should just let it run wild.

Ignore the fact that the natural form of measles has the risk of causing too many complications and long term negative health effects to be considered effective, and the cancer prevention research is on genetically modified strain specific to fighting cancer cells. Naturally, the instagram post did not link to the full article.
