  • Also no native Linux app so I could only use it on the app on my phone.

You can use their web interface to view/control certain models on your local network: https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003981973-How-to-Remotely-Access-Reolink-Cameras-NVRs-via-a-Web-Browser/

I have the Reolink Home Hub (doesn't support all my Reolink cameras, but enough), and I'm able to use the browser interface on Linux no problem. Of course, the app is more feature rich, but that depends on your needs, too.

I'm sure you can even access this interface through the net via remote proxy or something similar.

but in a recent firmware update they disabled the http and https capabilities

Yeah, they suck with their firmware. One of my cameras was locked out... literally unable to view, playback, or control it until I got in touch with Reolink tech support so they could force an update through. It took several days and a lot of effort to clear that up. Not cool!

  • I started using it last week, simply because other options weren't playing nice with my self-hosted collection (they wanted local files...).

Seems to work well, but it is very basic.

  • The “text messages” between him and his roommate tho…

The language is completely different. Vocab, grammar, punctuation, everything

I just read the "texts" and had the exact same thought. Everything about it seems... off.

And anyone his age would 100% know that you can't just "delete this exchange" after giving very specific details that didn't need to be shared at all.

Then he claims "idek if it had a serial number", referring to the gun used, all while being a highly proficient shooter who has likely used this gun for ages, since it's supposed to be in his family. Makes no sense.

Assuming he was texting using a modern phone, why are simple autocorrect rules being applied sporadically? You see "I'm" and then "Im". Autocorrect wouldn't let that slip.

Nobody should trust the FBI under Trump, anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if this was faked, just like the fake MS-13 tattoo on Kilmar Abrego Garcia's knuckles. The one that Trump defended as being totally real, and the one that was brought up by a journalist during an interview, who was later fired for criticizing Trump.

What a screwed up timeline. People in the future won't believe that any of this happened.

  • It’s using my Nvidia GPU to do the LLM thing, so that may be the difference.

    This could be!

Interestingly enough, I was playing around with LLama, as they have speech to text to interact with their chat bot, and it converts in near real-time with very good accuracy. So I do know that things can be fast and accurate, but I wish it was in Speech Note. LOL

For now, I may just to STT through my phone on a shared document with my laptop.

  • I really wanted to use it, because on my Android phone I use voice input all the time.

That's why I'm thinking it's a problem with Speech Note and not my mic, or how I'm speaking to it.

That's a real shame. I can type quite fast, but my hand joints called it quite a while ago. 😵

  • mp3va.com has been listed in U.S. Trade Representative annual reports as being unauthorized to sell music. Legal experts have explicitly stated that while MP3VA claims to operate legally under Ukrainian copyright laws, "it is not legal for them to sell this music in the United States".

I've never used the site, but there seems to be an argument here regarding moral law and legalities within the United States.

    But the site claims that:

Service www.Mp3va.com pays full-scale author's royalties to owners of pieces of music, trademarks, names, slogans and other copyright objects used on the site.

If that's the case, I think the OP should feel good about it.

Buying off a site like them likely pays out more per user than listening to the same songs on a streaming platform.

  • You know, it may be possible that all the ass-kissing is being done by people who also need their names scrubbed from the Trumpstein files.

Or else, they really just have no problem associating with a child rapist. Business or not, it has terrible optics.

  • only reason i might want to have kids is to have people who care about me when i'm old.

There are a lot of variables that would need to fall into place for that to be a reality, and chances are, you'll be supporting your kids until you die.

Not worth the gamble (IMO) in time, energy, and money, if that's what the hope is.

  • You didn't ask for it, but my advice is not to have kids, at any age.

Life is so short, and you'll never have enough time to do everything you want before you're too old to.

So why burden yourself with a kid(s)?

That assumes the kid(s) is totally healthy and doesn't grow up to be an asshole, addict, or troublemaker.

But if your kid(s) ends up with health problems, intellectually slow, or has nightmare behaviour problems, you'll hate living the rest of your life. Then you'll resent them, which would suck for everyone.

And at your husband's age, you'll be doing it all alone. And in 20 years, you'll likely be caring for your husband, so there's no life, even after this kid(s) becomes an adult.

  • Almost 40 percent of New Zealanders are failing their full licence test the first time around, leaving experts wondering why the government wants to get rid of it.

New Zealand has one of the worst youth road safety records in the developed world.

I know nothing about NZ politics or lobbying groups, but I'd follow the money on this one.

  • RFC Jr has no medical degree, no public health credentials, no scientific publications.

It's even worse than that. He isn't even scientifically literate, or honest, for that matter.

Just yesterday, one of the top vaccine officials at the CDC resigned because of Kennedy's gross incompetency and anti-vaccine agenda.

  • Gonna need something to defend yourself with against invasions from rival gangs.

Bullets won't protect you against an intentionally set fire to your home or base. Without laws, it won't be gun vs gun situation.

That said, it would really depend on the type of apocalypse we're talking about.

Massive natural disaster? Nuclear? Pandemic? "Zombies"? Global drought? A breakdown of society?

Bullets might be fine depending on the situation. You might not even survive long enough to use them.

  • I use the firewall feature to actually stop Photos from accessing the internet, so it doesn't touch YouTube.

I use third party YouTube apps to block ads and other crap from YouTube videos.

On desktop, I believe adguard will block ads on YouTube.com, but I also use third party apps to play videos.

  • I use Adguard and block Google photos from connecting to the internet.

Features like edit video still work, so I'm good. If editing didn't work, I'd disable it.

  • Depends on the apocalypse.

  • Maybe in a zombie apocalypse, but what are you gonna do with bullets in a regular apocalypse?

You may be the only person you'll ever see for years at a time. You can't drink them, you can't plant them, you can't build with them.

You could probably use them on yourself if you've got a gun that they work in, though, especially if that's the only one item you decided to choose for long-term survival. 😮

  • Car dependency is a big problem in most of the US.

I agree, and that often ends up being the excuse why kids aren't allowed to walk or bike to school, and it's fucking terrible.

But when you look at stats from countries in Europe, you have some countries that have kids being fully independent (in regard to walking or biking or taking public transportation) by their time they're 10 or 11 and able to do considerably more than North American teenagers, even at younger ages. It's kind of disgraceful for us North Americans.

  • Now about 15 to 20 families in their South Portland neighborhood have installed a landline.

    This is awesome.

Also, let kids walk to their friend's home to see if they want to play or hang out. It will build independence, get them exercise, and it gives them an opportunity to physically connect with their neighbourhood.

  • I seriously only want to have options for sorting when I do a search. That's the only thing that I need for it to be "perfect".
