(she/they)

Hi! You can call me Tadpole. I enjoy maps/geography, sci-fi and speculative fiction, classic and sports cars and motorsports, and retro and retrofuturistic technology from the 70s-90s. Also a racing, role-playing, indie and retro video game connossieur.

I am a certified lurker.

  • Also, given how Trump's been even more incoherent and irrational in this election compared to 2016's, I'd be surprised if he's still grounded enough in reality (or even alive) to seek more terms in 2028 - he's already in his 80s and doesn't live a healthy lifestyle; he has supercharged billionaire-only medicine, but there are only so many miracles that medicine can do.

I guess maybe the Republicans would try to keep him as a front for PR (like a puppet president) while hiding the fact that he's senile from the population, and governing from the shadows. Which I suppose is barely better than direct rule from Trump himself.

  • Now I'm curious: if Person A serves two full terms as US president, then Person B (from the same party) runs and chooses A as their vice-president, and then steps down, what would happen? Would A be unable to be picked as B's Vice President in first place, or would A simply be legally unable to be sworn in as President after B stepped down and the Speaker of the House gets the position instead?

  • ...Awful?

It's so fitting and poetic that, just when I finally start getting my life in order, the world throws itself off a cliff.

  • I'm not hopeful. I've already seen centrists and pundits saying that Harris lost because she's "too progressive" and that Dems need to move further right.

Given Dems' track record, I'm dreading 2028 is going to be JD Vance versus fucking RFK Jr. or Joe Manchin. At least the only silver lining out of THAT shitshow will be seeing the Democratic Party completely implode after completely alienating their voter base to become a carbon copy of the Republican Party (while Repub voters just keep voting R) and hopefully pave ground for an actual progressive party replace them, but that will hardly offset the horrors of 8 years of unrestrained fascism (assuming the left wins in 2032 🥲)

  • To be fair, Stirner was a pretty cool dude, so I get why :p

  • Yeah. I pretty much have to play it with mods that double/triple the daytime length, or I just feel perpetual anxiety over not being able to get anything done in a day.

  • That really fucking sucks, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this bullshit. Landlords really are the worst.

  • Oh my god, tell me about it.

Even when you want to rent a place and can afford to do so, landlords make the situation really difficult because many of them put up places supposedly for rent, but make it as difficult as possible for someone to actually qualify to rent it, since they're only doing it to inflate their net worth and having someone living there apparently devalues it. It took me over a year to find a place that actually was willing to let me rent it because most others would cook up bullshit reasons to reject me (my personal favourite being one that got mad at me and put me in their blacklist for... asking too many questions about their property???).

Like... I have money. They are offering a good in exchange for money. I am willing to spend money in exchange for this good. It shouldn't be this hard.

  • This was a great review, thank you for sharing. I've been meaning to play Fallout 4, but as someone who loved the worldbuilding of New Vegas, the story puts me off.

What I'd really like is a mod that removes the game's main storyline, so I can either focus on the adventuring/settlement-building aspects (thus turning the game into a sandbox), or combine it with good story mods and basically have them replace FO4's main questline. The only mod I know that does it is Fallout London. (I really need to figure out how to run it on Linux...)

Do you happen to know or recommend anything that fits with what I'm looking for?

  • This is currently me with modded Kerbal Space Program and Cities: Skylines lol

  • I don't know how or why, but I get absolutely atrocious stuttering while playing games on X11 that simply doesn't occur with Wayland, so X is just not an option for me.

  • As a fellow ace, I get your frustrations, I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

  • Appendicitis. I described it as feeling like a Chestburster from Alien was gestating inside me and ready to chew its way out of me at any second. I needed near-lethal amounts of painkillers while awaiting surgery to not feel like I was about to die.

For comparison, I broke my foot last year and it still wasn't anywhere near as painful as appendicitis.

  • I'm not technically inclined at all, so the most duct tapey thing I can remember was hacking Gnome to use Nemo as my file browser instead of Gnome's default file browser once.

  • I'm Latin American, I've seen some people use Latinx here, but I personally prefer Latine because it rolls off the tongue much easier. Ideally though, I'd personally rather be called Latin American to avoid the pronoun altogether. Again, though, that's a personal preference of mine - in languages with gendered pronouns, I personally prefer avoiding using pronouns toward myself altogether as much as possible.

At least in my experience, it's not really uniformly decided and also became a Culture War thing in here as well.

  • It's feeding time for princess again!

  • Sadly, that doesn't matter to them - at least from what I've seen, the predominating narrative among rightists and "centrists" is that he only registered Republican to sabotage/protest-vote in their primaries, and that therefore he's actually far-left Antifa did it.

  • I'm also black (but not American) and I felt the same way reading this lol

  • Use any you want. I've been mounting my internal secondary hard drive on /mnt for well over a year now and haven't had any problems. Previously, I mounted it on ~/Storage and it also worked fine (though only because I'm the only user in my computer; dual-user systems would result in the other user being unable to access the hard drive).
