I'm really interested in an immutable distro. I installed Silverblue on a friend's laptop, tried it, liked it but I'm on Linux Mint and I don't want to switch. Immutable Mint Debian Edition would be great. :)
I love Mint! It's not for those who like to tinker and break and fix thinks, because it just works out of the box. External audio, Intel CPU, Nvidia card were no problems in my setup. Calling Mint a beginners distro is like a car mechanic calling a sleek, fun car that's going smoothly a beginners car. I'm not part of some elitist cult, my OS isn't my personality, I'm not a masochist and I don't crave innovation just for the sake of it. I tried a couple other distros but none felt as polished and accessible as Mint.Be sure to use workspaces (strg+alt+arrows), I ignored them for too long because Windows doesn't have them.
This is a little offtopic and a Lemmy cliché, but:Go and try Linux Mint! I was a Windows fanboy for more than a decade, now I'm all team Linux. It doesn't run all games (I'm not a huge gamer, so no expert) but most stuff i want to play is no problem at all. I edit videos with Davinci, produce music with Bitwig plus there so much great free open source software. Working in Windows nowadays makes me nervous. It's so predatory and dishonest. Try to get off while you can, it won't get any better. And it's so much fun to explore a new OS with an opened mind and some curiosity.
I've probably seen weirder, but this one was pretty funny:I rode my bike along a huge river in a big city in Germany. It was already dark and my light was broken. In front of me I saw something blinking brightly coming at me. As it came closer I realized it was a guy on a bike that had lots of lights and reflectors attached to both the bike and the guy. He wore a light on his helmet, on his arms and his thigh. As he passed by me he looked at me super grumpy and said:"How about some light?!"
This is an age old topic and there is no right answer to it. You need to decide where you draw the line. Unpersecuted vigilantism will lead to chaos, on the other hand, we live in an unjust and structural violent system where rich people kill by signing papers and poor, desperate people die. They sometimes even vote for the elite before dying.I glued myself to the street to protest our government not acting on our planet heating up. I knew I broke the law but I felt like I needed to. It was a rough experience, still I don't regret it because I did what felt necessary to me. The guy shooting the CEO probably feels the same, and pathetic "Proud Boys" chasing immigrants do so as well. For me, violence against other people is a line I don't see myself crossing. But I can think of scenarios where I would understand people resorting to it.
Went looking for mushrooms in the woods with some friends. A few meters off a trail we found a rusty metal pipe sticking out of the ground. Looked like someone threw some chemical waste out. We tried to open it, to pull it out, we put a stick in (I get sweaty palms writing this down right now) and smelled the strange liquid. It didn't work so we went home. One friend send the location to the local waste authority. They called a day later, it was a phosphorus bomb dropped by the British during WW2, it was still active and had to be defused. Fuck me! This was not deep in the woods, people walked by in plain sight for decades.
So here I go again, searching the web to find out what jc141 is. I go to Reddit, huge wall of text that says stuff like "Peazip is not recommended to extract zpaq". So I go to GitHub, it links to GitLab, which tells me about Arch: stable, Distrobox, Debian: unstable. 10 minutes have passed and I still don't know what jc141 is. This gives me PTSD, it's Linux at it's worst.
This may not be the right place for a superficial rant, but: I never figured Lutris out. Installed it a couple of times in the past years and rage-deleted it after a week of fiddeling because NOTHING WORKED. Not GZDoom, no emulator, no windows game let alone the RDR2 repack. I don't think I'm that dumb, but seriously, I need help. I love the idea of a gaming platform on Linux, but the time I already sank into this piece of software without accomplishing anything is depressing!
Like I just discovered, shared and mourned in my post that got deleted? I really don't understand what's going on here. :).
Where was the misinformation?
Yeah, fuck them, right? Fucking assholes building a database with everything we learned and did as a species, making it accessible for everyone for free with their inconsistent editing. Let Wikipedia go broke with it's abundance of editing issues! Who will miss this piece of shit site everyone can add to, edit and correct even without an account. Not us, right!
