This guy made a case that we are really in the year 1728 because Holy Roman emperor wanted their reign to begin in the year 1000 because its pretty. So they made up 290+ years of history and yanked the calendar ahead to cover it up.
The Holy Roman Emperor Otto III conspired with Pope Sylvester II (and quite possibly the Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII as well) to doctor the dating system. The trio cooked the books to place their reigns at A.D. 1000, which they did because it is an auspicious number.
The three men added 297 years of bogus history to the early medieval period to facilitate this deception.
humans have a long history of enjoying intoxicants that goes back before we were humans.
cars ruined this.
but i think that getting intoxicated is fine, too. but i do have to stop regularly. i gave up on the thought of quitting, though. i prefer to think of it as stopping for months at a time with accepting the fact that society calls me a drug addict because society and i know that i will want to start again at some point.
As someone that is single in a neighborhood of married people let me say I have seen five husbands cheat on their wives in the three years. And I don't even know these people well nor do I know many in the neighborhood.
Men are just as capable of being shite. And now women can live life without having to have a man in their life. Like they can get credit cards and stuff that before the system denied them without a man in their lives. It is no longer weird to have a doctor that is a women. Or a CEO. Common place stuff these days.
So women's standards can go up. As someone well below all women's standards honestly coming to that conclusion ... that I am free of trying to appear attractive to women ... has made my lonely life get better.
Yes. Once people see that they have numbers on their side ... and the No Kings movement does ... that can cause a shift in belief for change. Change in beliefs can create action.
The Emperor's New Clothes is not a story about seeing the king's dick. It is about the power of assembly in the face of tyranny. Not the power of websites, not the power of zoom meeting, not facebook. But the power of assembly in person together to cut down dictators and their toadies.
It is like the scene in Mars Attack! when the alien is running around with the language translator repeating "WE COME IN PEACE" while disintegrating humans left and right with their space pistols.
They will say whatever they have to while physically doing whatever they want.
I think that the repeated use in marketing and advertising of people telling you to make others experience envy for something they are selling is really depressing. Envy is one of the worst human emotions. And to do things to create it is not for the good.
I know that none of it makes perfect financial rational sense to try to create a new industrialization on a local scale at first. But I believe that as global systems rewire themselves with this new world that we can become more resilient by doing things that might not be 100% rational.
If I may quote poet Marge Piercy
The will to be totally rationalis the will to be made out of glass and steel:and to use others as if they were glass and steel.
sometimes irrational is better; better to not treat each other as resources; we can build us.
that gave me a chuckle.
