  • This is true. Almost all time it’s the textures and the sound files. Even more, time to time devs choose not to compress them as decompression could be a performance bottleneck. Deep Rock Galactic is good example for that, the game is 4 gb because there’s no textures in it except UI brushes. All 3D models of the game uses very clever Vertex Coloring techniques instead.

You might be right with it could be optional, but I’m guessing it will be a deployment hell since Steam’s (only platform that matters) underlying mechanisms doesn’t directly support it, and when it’s done with workarounds it becomes a convoluted process for end users - especially when you consider most users will download the full pack anyway.

  • Less Police Presence. Crime rates drop inordinately as the population decreases, and with that, you see a lot less "boys in blue" - furthermore, because it's usually just a few people, you get to know them and have less anxiety with interactions.

That’s not the impression I got from Twin Peaks 🧐

  • I was expecting that as well but somehow Microsoft botched it. Training on failed commits should be the most invaluable asset. Yet their internally developed models (Phi) are lagging back of the competitors.

  • Microsoft bought GitHub like back in 2017.

  • I was in the impression it’s development stopped altogether since mobile app support dropped. Cool!

  • I was the guy saying you’re one of those startups just making self hosting difficult on purpose. I’m seeing you’ve made great improvements there!

Going to give it a shot again. Thanks for the hard work.

  • Found out Ghost 6.0 is out today and now it supports ActivityPub. It’s time to set up a new blog I’ll never write once more!

  • With all the reasoning thrown around, I’m wondering why the fuck such an advanced system would write JavaScript and not directly machine code.

  • It’s Turkiye* now.

  • That only would launch them and probably won’t support remotes properly.

  • I think there is a fine line between “installing an app” and “spinning up a docker image and keeping it maintained”.

I’m in the camp that Docker images are what .exe’s used to be, but they’re not easily accessible still. So Immich doesn’t count I fear.

  • And what if you have other business elsewhere?

  • Why the fuck one uses Rick Rubin’s pic for the vibe coder? He’s a legend and he represents whatever AI is not.

  • nah. well. that’s how Chinese industry rolls. they become contractors for western manufacturers, and when they got ordered, let’s say, 100.000 units, they produce 200.000 and sell the extra under their own brand. that’s how they’ve fucked over Audio device industry and now can produce no name headphones better than Sennheisers, or pro microphones better than Schoeps.

  • Mount & Blade. It’s not unpopular per se, but somehow I never saw anyone mentioning it around here in Lemmy.

  • Zurna. Definitely Zurna.

  • Came here to say this.

It predates LOTR just by 2 years yet I couldn’t help myself thinking how much Peter Jackson drew inspiration from it. Very similar shots, very similar visuals, very similar soundtrack, but ABYSMAL storytelling really ruins everything.

  • Esoterica is great. It’s mostly about gnostic side of western religious history. Dr. Justin Sledge is doing awesome research on the relevant topics. I’m watching that to know more about to put religion in a historical context.
