Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

  • This episode confirmed my biggest fear: I'm bad at focusing on audio stories, and will have to choose when to listen carefully.

As far as the story goes, I'm happiest to see that they're doing some character rehab for Marla McGivers.

They don't seem to be doing similar rehab for Khan himself, which is fine by me, but they are highlighting his ability to turn on a dime and go full tyrant at the drop of a hat.

  • Okay, I'm convinced - thread is up.

  • excuse me reddit is that way

  • I've never seen any indication that taxes had anything to do with it. I think they just gave the exclusive license to Netflix (which has since expired, at least for season one).

  • I'm open to it, if there's enough interest.

    Speak now, people!

  • Paramount tends to give other platforms temporary exclusive licenses to the films.

It's not perfect, but I find justwatch.com useful when trying to figure out where things are available in my country.

  • Star Trek will also launch the official anniversary Hub – StarTrek.com/60 – the home for the yearlong celebration. The hub will provide a look at the calendar of activities including exciting new partnerships, events, and opportunities for fan participation. Fans can now visit the hub and sign up to be among the first to learn about special events, new merchandise and more.

Nothing new or interesting there yet - might be one to keep an eye on.

  • Two episodes (if you can call a 3-4 minute short an "episode") will supposedly go live today, so, uh, if you're a preschooler, let us know what you think!

  • stardates

Why do you do this to yourself?

  • It's been a pretty poorly-kept secret - an Enterprise-D set with the TNG character figs. It looks like the official announcement will finally come soon-ish.

  • There was a little Metron twinkle in the distance right before it happened.

  • I thought there was a bit of a missed opportunity to delve into her training and experiences during the Klingon War. They've used that as part of her backstory, but have given the meatiest stuff to M'Benga and Chapel.

  • I had an idea for what I would have done with a Disco musical.

Rather than having everyone be forced to sing, the episode would be an actual stage musical put on by the crew in the shuttlebay or someplace.

The plot? The story of first contact with the Vulcans...but the "official," Borg-free version, with a glorified, square-jawed version of Zefram Cochrane.

  • Sometimes, she crashes the ship!

  • I thought this one was a perfectly enjoyable, even "classic" (whatever that means) episode - something I'd been hoping for in this season that has seemed a little too "gimmicky" at times.

I wasn't wowed by it, but it was hitting all the right notes.

And then they got to the Metron reveal, and...I just don't know. It serves little purpose aside from connecting dots of continuity, and I just don't find that interesting. It's fine, I guess, but I think the episode would have been better off without it.

  • I mean, that's pretty standard. They wrote the "Best of Both Worlds" cliffhanger with no idea how they were going to resolve it.

Very, very few shows aren't "made up as they went along".

  • I see no reason that both things cannot be true.

Vulcans do go through extensive training to achieve kolinar; they also possess unique genetic traits that make it possible.

  • None of the episodes you cited stated that biology plays no role in the Vulcan capacity for emotional suppression.

So we have one episode that says it fits, and zero that say it doesn't.
