  • The truly crazy experiences are kinda beyond language and I couldn't really do them justice here but looking in the mirror on shrooms is a consistently freaky thing to do. Kinda like distorting mirrors at an old timey funfare except infinitely weirder. Hilarious if you can handle it though.

  • I think there's no way to tell if most people would enjoy math under the right circumstances but in my case you are absolutely right. Back in school I hated it, didn't wan't to find out more or even retain what I had to learn for tests.

That changed drastically when I studied philosophy. I learned about scholars there who "practiced" math in an almost spiritual way. Just by engaging with it, exploring this abstract world and uncovering its mysteries. Even if you don't take it quite this far philosophy and math are very closely related. It's probably gonna be tough for someone without a rough grasp of essential mathematical concepts to engage with metaphysics or formal logic.

Now that I'm a mechatronics technician I even need math in my day to day life, a lot more than I had ever anticipated. And I like it. I like how no matter how counterintuitive the method, if math says it works then it will. It's not just an abstract world of it's own, it's also woven into our world wherever you look.

  • I went to a private school that fits those criteria for a couple of years. It was a scholarship, my family isn't overly wealthy. Smaller classes, lots of extracurricular activities like diving, golf or skiing and two teachers per lesson. Still it was surprisingly shit. First of all unsurprisingly about 90% of students were insufferable brats that would literally pull the "father will hear about this" card on teachers which unfortunately tended to be effective. Also everything had this elitist vibe about it despite really being not that special. This also goes for the food. It was expensive, prepared by an actual chef and yet it wasn't anything to write home about. Looked like restaurant food, tasted like cafeteria food. I switched to a public school eventually and the cafeteria food there was on par regarding quality and much more reasonably priced.

  • About 15 years ago I googled "free games download" and stumbled upon a 3rd person gladiator game where mouse movement translated to slashing direction. Playing it was already fun but when I looked through the install folder I found all the texture files and customized the hell out of all the equipment. Basically this game was my first attempt at modding which has been a hobby of mine ever since. No idea what its name was or where I could look for it though.

  • In my experience if there's a negative emotion (fear or shame usually) associated with a past situation which I don't want to feel I think about it again and again in seach of a perspective that basically makes me look better. It's futile. Best to just accept it as it happened, feel the feeling for a moment and then let it go.

  • Yes I do if I really need to clean the air or if I want something from the boss but I'm a factory worker so with my colleagues the need rarely arises. If it does it's pretty funny to see how seamlessly you can actually switch between brutal workplace banter and sharing something genuine. It doesn't have to take a lot of time if you're upfront with it.

  • To me if it's done purely for the attention of others rather than intrinsically motivated it's childish. A general lack of responsibility is also childish. Tamer stuff like trinket collections, lewd jokes, cartoons and whatnot in my opinion is enjoyable independently of age. If anything judging those things as childish could be seen as childish. Who's more obsessed with seeming all grown up than kids?

  • Yes it absolutely did to the point where I don't think I'd want to talk about women with him ever. We do speak but rarely and mostly about superficial stuff altough that's mostly for unrelated reasons. He's not a bad guy but still not exactly a good dad.
