  • Uh…I didn’t. I am a supporter of maximizing individual freedom and vote for the person who seems most in line with that, but I also feel that none of the options are bold enough. I think that if healthcare, housing, and education are considered human rights, then the bullshit grind of living gets reduced to a reasonable level and people can pursue their full potential.

  • Yes.

  • Ghost Blog. Open source, flexible, loads of potential uses, works every time.

  • But responding to malice in kind is not always the right option. It is usually only the correct choice when the malicious person has no potential to change. Responding to a badly behaved teen with poor treatment only exacerbates the problem. On the other hand, responding to an oligarch with firm resistance would be the right choice.

The oligarch wants to be treated harshly because that is their core value by which they think the world operates, while the teen is often acting in a defensive posture to avoid harm to themselves and would respond to a more gentle hand.

  • Your observation is correct, but your conclusion is wrong. “Treat others as they want to be treated.” Different people have different needs.

  • Why do bands need to voice a strong opinion on international politics?

  • That’s good that you enjoy it right now. How do you see this working long term?

  • I don’t really understand why you think a lot of these things are losing causes. FOSS is the backbone of IT. Anti-car urbanism is common in some areas of the world. Lemmy and the Fediverse have been doing great over the last 2 years. Socialism/leftist ideology is on the rise alongside the fascist takeover—it would have been unheard of to have “the squad” in the 90’s.

So where you see losing, I see slow and steady progress happening alongside capitalist fascism that is trying and failing to stop it completely.

    Cat: “They’re ready.”

  • You are risking the other services you host on that VPS if you get a copyright complaint. It’s up to you, but considering VPN’s can be obtained for around $2 per month, I would imagine that the extra cost is lower than the liability.

  • You just said it yourself—you retaliated. That’s the mistake. They have all the power by design, and nothing is going to change that. If you don’t like it, you are welcome to find somewhere else to make your point.

Being a Redditor is like being at boot camp—your only options are “thank you, sir, yes, sir, I understand, sir.” Any response that deviates from that will just make your situation worse—and that is exactly how it is intended to be.

  • I’ll just get this out of the way up front: Reddit sucks.

While I understand your frustration, I think you’ve made some errors here. First, Reddit is not trying to be a free speech platform anymore. They are a totally subjective space that is ruled by the personal will of moderators and admins. They don’t have to explain anything to you, it is their house, and each sub is an arrangement where you pretty much just have to take it as it is, or leave it.

“Fucking assholes like you” and “is it normal to act like that” are antagonistic statements. From their perspective, you are a stranger antagonizing them on their turf—the easiest and quickest solution for them is to just get rid of you.

When they removed your comment, it seems like it could have been left at that. They didn’t want your comment. So it goes. By fighting it, you contributed to a situation that resulted in you being perceived as a troublemaker.

If you feel like you can’t speak your mind on a platform like Reddit, the answer is to find a different platform—not fight the Reddit dragon with complaints and insults.

  • I don’t think you’ll get hate for being a leftist on Lemmy.

  • But…why? It would probably be cheaper and easier to just run your torrent client through a basic VPN, or pay for a seedbox.

  • I think the fear of impending death helps you reach the higher octave.

  • If I am ever plummeting to my death, I hope I have the presence of mind to do a Wilhelm scream.

  • That is pretty odd that your black water and grey water pipes are connected. I thought they were usually separate so that your shower didn’t smell like shit.

  • How else are you supposed to buy cocaine? /s
