He/Him or They/Them

  • Brb, gotta make a Grindr account real quick...

  • Fair point lol. It doesn't really matter to me though since it's almost never booting, it's always on (as you'd expect from a server).

  • Eh its maybe a minute. It all depends on hardware.

  • No one uses Ninite or Chocolatey around here?

  • You don't hear people complain about removed (anymore) because it's accepted that you are buying into a walled-garden ecosystem when you buy removed. That's kinda its whole thing.

There are a few issues with Edge on Windows, one being set as the default out of the box, another being it's inability to be uninstalled, another being it's the only option when using windows built-on search, and yet another being it's anything-but-one-click solution depending on the version of Windows in question. In some versions, you have to still go into default apps, find the browser you want, set it as default, click around the popup begging you to try Edge anyway, then go down the list of file extensions and select your browser for all the ones it doesn't change on its own when you make it the default, some of which may popup again begging you to try Edge first. And when that's done, you still can't uninstall it or make it not open when using windows search.

For a product marketed as the opposite of a walled garden, it really is frustrating. Especially considering older versions of Windows had a built-in browser that could be uninstalled and could set another browser as default with one click from inside the new browser.

  • I get your general point, but I'd like to say that theoretically you could have a socialist system where the state owns the means of production for certain industries and the workers would have control through the state as long as the state is an actual functioning democracy.

The problem, of course, is that states with that much power almost always devolve into authoritarianism because of the corrupting force of power.

All I'm trying to say is that, if done right, you could have actual worker control via the state as long as the state is actually listening to and, in some sense, subservient to the people.

This is no way defends the state capitalism we see in China and Russia since they are not even close to a functioning democracy.

  • Definitely not all communists or socialists, at least that was not the case for the subreddit. I'm pretty sure the mod for this community put out a clarification post if you want to check it out.

  • It's the same "pick-me" behavior we see with Blaire White and Candace Owens. They either truly think they will be seen as one of the good ones, or they don't care and just want the power and money that comes with being the token.

  • Same. I was looking for alternatives to the R word and I saw lemmy and was interested, until I saw the ".ml" and immediately heard the amungus noise.

I was very happy to see this here. While I'm still working on blocking all the ml and genzdong communities I see in all, it's already a lot better than I expected going into it.
