  • Great post!

Do you recommend playing the first game first or is it better to immediately start with the second game and play the first one, if you want to have more?

  • No. Hard No. The progressive Germany we (I live here) have today was fought AGAINST those that continued to shape Germany even after the war. A strong shift was the 68 movement that specifically questioned why people who worked in administrative positions under Hitler continued to work in sometimes the same positions in West Germany. And also it was not because the Germans were the one calling the shots. A lot of the democratic reforms were only possible in the first place because those Germans that championed them were backed by the guns of the allied forces.

And honestly most problems we currently have are exactly because of remnants from Nazi times that weren't sufficiently destroyed.

And so currently we have exactly the same problem so many others have: conservatives who don't conserve anything but rather are regressive and want back to a "good old days" that never existed

  • From what I found, it's possible to play it on Linux through Wine, so not totally windows exclusive. How well it works depends probably on how willing you are to tinker, as always in such cases.

Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines, why is it so hyped?

  • Could be from somebody who is blocked by you or your instance. You could try opening the post from another Lemmy server and try to see it then.

And if the comment is blocked, then all replies are also blocked for you.

  • Wait, you could write on the map? Sure that was in Thief1&2? I can't remember anything like that.

  • Yeah, the biggest problem in my opinion is that they don't commit to stealth, because they think the fan base is too small. So everything has to be solvable by violence as well. Which in turn leads to a worse experience than if they focused fully on that.

Which is why I'm so surprised that the indie Retro wave hasn't yet created something like Thief with a new story/world. Should be easier nowadays with game engines and editors and I think there is no real competition there yet.

  • Oh yes, that level is still in my memories after more than a decade. And for good reason. I will make a post about Thief 3 in the future if nobody else does it first.
