    The Koran absolutely forbids charging interest (which is why there is an entire alternate Islamic banking system) and one of the five pillars of Islam is zakat - giving money to the needy. Shariah explicitly demands forms of land redistribution and mandates zakat.

    If you read Qutb (literally wrote a book called Social Justice in Islam), you realize that there’s actually a substantial group of people who are very heavily inspired by Marx and Lenin, and also believe that apostates should be killed.

  • Thrifting can cost money if you buy things, but walking around is free. Bigger city = more thrift stores.

    Similarly, I love walking having access to ethnic grocery stores. Spices are cheaper, you have access to organ meats, etc… that are also cheaper. It’s fun to walk into a Filipino or Korean grocery store, do a little research and try to cook something with ingredients I’ve never tried before.

    My tiny apartment is on a busy street so it’s also fun to do a little people watching. If I walk to the gas station to get a soda ( <10 minutes) I get to see a ton of activity any time of day.

    Festivals are pretty frequent and fun to walk around even if I don’t spend anything. I live near a university as well so there’s always stuff going on.

    I’ve lived in a rural area before and couldn’t stand it. Absolutely nothing to do other than go walk around Walmart.

  • Overestimating how easy it is. Even before FOSTA-SESTA, you’d have to learn the lingo and figure out where your audience is. If you’re a cis dude, there’s a lot of cis dudes willing to suck or whatever for free. There’s also like literally nothing stopping them from not paying you - obviously you should take the money up front, but you go through all that effort, meet the guy and he says “oh I actually don’t have any money but don’t you like me enough to do it for free? 🥺” and in the best case scenario you just don’t get raped.

    If they could pick up the desperation (and you’re desperate because of the exploding family thing), they’d probably pressure you into not making them wear a condom.

  • Art. I found some cheap acrylic glitter paint I bought a while back and I’ve been making sparkly erotic paintings. Some mixed media with mutilated copies of mass market christian books, random wooden trays. I have a bunch of leftover scraps of t-shirt from making yarn and other fabric remnants, so I make quilts.

  • I got my dream job offer rescinded two weeks ago BECAUSE I AM TRANS.

    I have experienced sexual violence BECAUSE I AM TRANS.

    I am terrified of being pulled over by a cop and institutionalized or incarcerated because the government says that my license is wrong now.

    The problem is not my mental state. The problem is the discrimination.

    If I killed myself, it would to be to avoid becoming homeless - because, like many trans people, there are substantial barriers to employment. It doesn’t matter if the Supreme Court said it’s illegal to fire people for being trans, it fucking happens.

    My mental health would be peachy fucking keen if I were not part of the marginalized minority group that the government is so slavering to make a target that they tried to pretend the Kirk shooter carved trans propaganda into his bullets! They want to kill us or institutionalize us - how the fuck would your mental health be if you were walking around with a target on your back?
