  • My dreams have certainly changed, but they aren't smaller. My dreams now involve space travel to other galaxies and particle physics, which is different from what I dreamt of as a kid which was building a space elevator, drilling to the middle of the earth, and solving world poverty. Well, the last one was naively assuming that poverty was a natural result in a world of benevolent humans.

    The universe is still infinite. Take a look at this "Timelapse of the future of the universe" and tell me it doesn't make you dream of how different our existence could be. Or this one about Egoistic Altruism.

  • The EU is already doing its best to attract scientists from the US, so if you're educated, you might have good chances, especially if you're willing to learn a new language. Probably you could get your family into the EU too.

    I honesly don't know where the Black American population is gonna go. I mean, the continent of Africa has been divided so much by European colonialization, that its very hard to track back to an ancestry origin.

    This is one thing I'm kinda hopeful about actually. The continent is really large and spreading out 100 million people across it could work out quite well. Black culture is already pretty popular in parts of Africa, and Black women in the US are the biggest group of people getting degrees, if I'm not mistaken. It could be massive brain drain from the US to the advantage of African countries.

    Also the world could be at risk, since the US would end up as a war zone.. Imagine the KKK or other neo-nazi groups gaining access to a nuclear silo...

    Indeed. I do wonder how quickly they'd go from "we're the best, we don't need y'all" to "alright, give us everything you got!".

  • I'm at the point where I am leaning more and more into the "just burn it all down and start over" side of things.

    FPTP is probably the biggest problem, IMO. If there were proportional representation in the senate and house of representatives with ranked choice voting, some instant run-off for single-winner elections, the US would probably look very different. Of course things like restricting presidential powers, and disconnecting the judiciary from political influence would do something too, but the aforementioned things would probably do more.

  • Wouldn't surprise me if the MAGA crowd considered itself as "native" and conveniently ignored the indigenous population completely, just like bible thumpers believe "dinosaurs were put here to test us" and that the world is 9000-15000 years old. My guess: they'll say "American Indians --> Indians --> India". It's the most simplistic thing I could think of.
