  • This is the kind of response I am used to: swearing due to offended identity, inherently divisive terminology like "our lands" and blaming for causing you to lose theist intestine wars.

Having tried a lot in the past, I know that a comment thread is not the place or modality to conduct a fruitful conversation with a Christian.

Being born a Catholic, I can tell you that epiphany came when I realized that all the good things I am sure you did do not need to bring with them the mark of a (made up) system of power: you own it yourself and the real animus driving your actions can be just a feeling of belonging to the human species at large, a species free to roam any land without the need to plant flags nor to feel attached to any place only to limit the potential of others and one's own.

  • In Italy, our most famous Holocaust survivor, Primo Levi, in his book recounting his days in Auschwitz tells of a man who would spend all his cigarettes on the black market to get some soap and shower every day.

Asked about why, he tells that you not taking care of yourself and your body is what Nazis want to achieve: to turn you in the animal they can exploit to the last drops of blood and sweat.

Taking care of yourself is the first Resistance against Fascism and all those who are against unconditional respect for Humanity.

    Take care, Brother.

  • I treat all people with religious beliefs as members of a dormant terrorist cell.

They could be your nice neighbor with whom you can interact normally on a day-to-day basis, but in the end they all have compromised against logic and, in the right conditions, that is a terrible liability.

  • I still have my reddit account, although with all posts and comments first turned into Fuck spez and the deleted. I tried Lemmy first 2 years ago, but the Italian instance is just a mirror bot farm. I gave lw a chance now and I am hooked.

  • Remember all the narrative about the modern warfare and "surgical operations"?

  • I take the (you may call it Stoic) decision not to think about what I cannot affect. 23andMe is not a good company, it is tied to Google etc. and they are sloppy with security. I am not even trying to justify myself not taking my data away from there earlier, that is my fault, and I have been stupid and lazy.

That said, their Privacy Statement is quite clear about what should happen and none of the exception listed there apply, also because genetic data is anyway Art. 9 data.

I will act at the best of my possibilities and not concern myself more than needed with how bad of an actor anyone may be in the US (it is a bit overwhelming as an exercise, especially nowadays).

  • What I meant is that "this Privacy Statement will apply to your Personal Information as transferred to the new entity", so by itself the sale of assets is not a reason to exclude any data from anything stated there.

I am deleting my account as soon as I get transferred all the data, but what happens when I request the deletion is still valid whether or not they sold the assets.

And genetic data of any kind is absolutely covered by GDPR: https://gdpr-info.eu/recitals/no-34/

  • A merger or liquidation is not a valid purpose to store personal, and especially Art. 9, data, as covered by the legal basis of legal obligations, according to GDPR. So, if you are in Europe, they would have to delete it.

  • We have all been there. Enjoy the ride until you will start questioning whether you are a fascist in some latent sense.

  • Proper tea.

  • FeralHistorian is that you?

  • Total security is the same as zero risk: it does not exist. Still requiring companies to properly collect documentation about data subject requests is a positive in my book.

  • Proper identification requires a logged in device to take a picture of you and possibly a short video in which the document is moved in front of the camera (to confirm the holograms).

  • This is actually required to comply with the GDPR.

  • As an ex-biologist, I think this is just down to a choice of words: as a society, you could see Nature as an enemy.

Man, even as an individual, or even a monocellular organism, you could argue that entropy is your enemy.

If an enemy is a useful concept for maximizing potential within your scope of choice, then be it.

  • I genuinely believe there is at least one case like this in every country in the last 30 years.

  • So the keyword to monitor is "HTSC", got it. I heard Sabine Hossenfelder comment a few papers, but I have no idea about the full body of research.

  • Wow, that must be the best answer yet, at least from my ignorant point of view about the feasibility. I am extremely fascinated by material science. Are there any promising lines of research for this?

  • Can you expand on the technology and use cases?
