  • I was late to the party. The only acronym I ever used was SC2.

  • This is about the best answer that can be expected for such a vague plea for help.

I've done the video game addiction thing myself. Path of Exile.....the game was good. Using it for unhealthy coping was not good.

Basically I would agree. The only thing you can change is yourself. Work on yourself. Dodge the second arrow.

  • I haven't tried Winlator myself.

Less demanding Switch games work fine. The Retroid Pocket 5 would have better performance and there are videos on youtube with game demonstrations to see performance.

  • Android tablet with built-in controller?

    Yes

Does it run (x64) PC games

There's Winlator, but you've gotta manage your expectations for the performance you expect for PC games.

    (arm) Android games and emulators

    Primarily this

  • Thanks I'll check them out.

  • Lemmy is fragmented and I don't know if posts get visitbility across communities. It seems Lemmy.world gets more engagement and that should be the primary place to post. It's a shame that cross posts don't bring everyone to the same commenting area to engage with each other.

  • PSP had so many great games. I've got China Town Wars, Rock Band, Wipeout Pure, Patapon, Mercury Meltdown, Final Fantasy Tactics......and really wish I had the time to get to all of these.

  • Every day I discover a new creative way that humans are messed up.

  • I thought it would be perfect for the Mrs, but she's refused saying she going to end up staying up way too late because she gets addicted to games 😆

The only thing you've got to be cautious about is localised save files of you haven't set up something like syncthing for backup.

  • It's going to be served by a white faced clown holding a red balloon.

  • Best I can do is the washing machine. No one had ever called their step brother for help with getting stuck in the microwave.

  • I did have a day. Thanks.

  • Your parenting mojo

But anything that helps you understand your brain and personal issues better will also help with parenting. So also try:

    The Happiness Lab

    Hidden Brain

    School of Life (YouTube channel)

People online tend to recommend therapy to everyone, and I'm sure therapy is great if you can access it. But you can read, listen, watch, learn and improve through self reflection....and heal wounds you never knew about.

The thing I'm really missing is finding a good dad group or parent group to join. I would love some peer support.

  • I'm good with my parents. They have their normal human flaws, which I accept happily.

Are you a parent yourself? It's really difficult. You can't help but bring a lot of baggage. There's a podcast I lesten to, to improve parenting that runs a workshop called "taming your triggers". Having children exposes a lot of wounds and personal baggage. It's really difficult to recognise and address those on yourself as a parent. Your description of expectations from a parent are so idealised, I would argue that there are very few individuals in the world who are actually successful in being that good and selfless.

This is interesting if you've got an hour to watch a philosophy video(link goes directly to 53min if you just want to watch a few minutes).

  • I've gotten this feeling back recently when I started playing Fragpunk. I would highly recommend it. The unranked PvP modes are chaotic, fast paced and have tons of action with crazy ability cards you can add. It's been a great change from the sweaty FPS gaming that's so universal now.

I'd like to thank Apex for banning Linux, otherwise I would have never bothered looking for Fragpunk.

I would also like to thank Marvel Rivals for being an unbalanced hell and forcing my hand to ditch it. It got tiresome having a team full of people who don't bother staying together or coordinating, who run into the line of fire one by one. In Fragpunk unranked games I don't have to care at all what the team is doing. Like old CoD lobbies or Team Fortress 2 lobbies, in Fragpunk you can just go out there and have fun and look at the scoreboard at the end to see what other people did.

  • Let him try to aim for it..... As long as he doesn't neglect his education and other opportunities then there's no harm in giving him some years to figure this out himself the hard way.

  • The stated purpose of the police is not "protect the rich from the poor".

The stated purpose of war is not "to extract resources from that country and fund the industrial war machine".

Many things are made for serving a purpose that's not said out loud.

  • Virgin is always a rip off and only worthwhile if you don't have BT fibre in your area.

Try stacking discounts (sales + O2 simcard discount) and negotiating aggressively at contract end.

  • There's no point? There is a point: To protect the rich and powerful. The patent system is serving its purpose here as intended by the people who have been making these rules.
