  • Hidden Brain had a good episode "Why You Feel Empty" Aug. 6, 2024. "We all know what it feels like to be sad" ... "We also know what it feels like to be joyful and happy" ... "Sociologist Corey Keyes says lots of us live in an emotional netherworld that falls between these two poles, we are not depressed but still feel unfulfilled." Anyway, I saved it cause it stuck with me because I've been languishing for a while as well. Give it a listen let me know what you think.

  • What are you trying to understand about conservatives? Like they believe in a hierarchy and follow a type of virtue ethics. Conservative brains are more fearful and less open.

If you want to understand conservative's then just look at things through their view of stuff. For example, take Jan. 6 and the different interpretations presented. Conservative news just censors any actual coverage and just makes stuff up to serve their goals. So we get stuff like people were invited in by the cops and the only person who died that day was the girl that got herself shot. While completely ignoring the obstruction the Trump admin engaged in to ensure there was a delayed response to the assault on the Capitol.

Or just look at the coverage to both 2016 candidates mishandling classified documents. I know conservatives that couldn't vote for H dawg because she mishandled those documents. Then eight years later they have no issue voting for Trump who stored documents in public areas of his resort and worked to obstruct the investigation into said handling. Why the different responses? Because conservatives believe in a hierarchy and their leaders can do no wrong.

    Sorry for the essay.

  • The Majority Report with Sam Seder just had a guest on today for an interview about this very topic. The guy's name was Daniel Hunter and I found it solid.

The gist of the interview was that you can block boats that are carrying arms shipments with smaller boats and that might work for a while but the coast guard will probably fuck with you. So your best course of action is to get the dockworkers on your side and get them to not load the weapons onto the boats. I don't know how much shipping is done in Utah as I've only been once.

  • You sure you aren't driving poorly given that it is always someone mad right near you?

  • The state of things is the US dollar is still king. We export our inflation because the US dollar is the world reserve currency. Yes there are other states that would be interested in de-dollarizing, but what's the alternative? Flying planes of gold around the world like Russia?

This unlikely to change in the near future, because there are few other currencies large enough to fill the role and there are exactly zero other countries with anywhere near the military power to maintain reserve currency status.

  • How far apart are your eyes?

  • That Oxy family. Or the whole Panama papers? Or recently all the Boeing execs that ignored or silenced various whistleblowers with regard to the 737 Max.

  • JD is Nathan for You, but without awareness or knowing.

  • Corporations tried out binding arbitration and the people just took it with very little complaining. So why not keep eroding consumer protections or the other rights citizens fought for in the before times?

  • Okay, I can get behind the bee and flower pictures, but why pictures of shit? Is it a modern art thing?

  • It is all about where your hands fall on your body, and it sounds like you are just an ankle holster person. Maybe tie some knots in the handles or use a clip to shorten them so the bottom doesn't drag.

  • Maybe check out Matt McManus's work, he's a professor at the University of Michigan.

  • That game gave growing up me an unrealistic expectation that ventilation systems went everywhere.

  • You aren't accounting for the increase in cool stuff that makes people want to stick around longer. There's at least one more Dune movie coming and even a Rebel Moon for the Snyder people. When dueling was popular people were going to church for fun... If you believe in an afterlife and most of your time is spent peasanting about, why not have some fun in a duel?

  • I am pretty sure the New York fraud case that is sending Trump spiraling is the direct result of testimony that his fixer Cohen gave to Congress. You can probably find the relevant testimony on the youtubes. If memory serves AOC was doing some of the important questioning.
