  • They're imagining the community (the subreddit) as a space one enters by navigating to the community's main page, and "leaving" it is going to do other things.

  • A major difference I noticed with Lemmy from my time on Reddit is communities aren't quite as rabid about strict adherence to their topic or gimmick. r/whatisthisthing banned me for seven days once for elaborating what an E6B flight computer is for. Because "This community is for IDENTIFYING the thing, not DISCUSSING the thing!" Not...so much of that around here.

  • I suspect getting pissed off is the point.

  • One of the rules of that community is "post before you leave." People put "rule" in the post to indicate they're complying with that rule.

  • My cat walking back and forth across my pillow wanting food, the selfish little quadruped.

  • Do NOT mention Nicole.

  • I was promoted from the rank of Commander Aggravated.

    The avatar is an AI creation.

  • Carbon-Zinc batteries are basically impossible to find, yes. They were pretty much entirely superseded by Zinc Chloride batteries, which are fairly easy to find. They're often marketed with the phrase "heavy duty" though they're lower in capacity to alkalines.

  • A couple generations back, Nvidia was the obvious choice and AMD just couldn't compete. Nvidia had real-time ray tracing, AMD didn't, Nvidia's hardware video encoding was great, AMD's sucked, Nvidia had CUDA, AMD pretty much didn't, Nvidia had their DLSS frame gen technology, AMD either didn't or it wasn't very good.

    Well, in most of those places, AMD has caught up, and they offer more VRAM in their lower tier products, at better prices.

    Oh, and I've been hearing through the grapevine that Nvidia is dropping the ball with drivers. That used to be AMD's bag, but AMD's drivers are more solid these days.

    Oh, and Nvidia's weird new power socket keeps catching on fire. I've got a 7900GRE that attaches with two good old 8-pin PCIe connectors that offer a distinct lack of combustion.

  • I think they had to make that change because there was a Radeon 9700 back in the ATI days or something. I just wish they hadn't done the RX thing. Because those charts where people compare GPU performance will have legends like:

    RX-7600 RTX-5060 RX-9060XT TXT-6060RXT TVX-5040T RTX-4060

    and you say "There's no consistency with generation or manufacturer and I'm pretty sure one of those is the part number of a cylinder head for a Toyota Tacoma.

  • People who hurt cats. If you hurt a cat, may you be paralyzed but awake and not numb for the entire duration of an open heart surgery.

  • I Hope C cells specifically do.

  • I have a flashlight in my pocket.

  • Or would they demand it in Go? Or have they abandoned that?

  • My PC has 32GB of RAM. I can run a video game while having a fuckton of browser tabs open. I could probably get away with 16.

  • If you want to do anything of any scale with Python, you need to understand OOP because that's how modules work, but you can use it without.

  • Modern day Quickbooks has gone the way of Office 365 hasn't it? It's just their website?

    That's something that has me hesitating starting a business, is Linux business software. I've heard of Odoo, and it's allegedly open source but kinda not...?

  • AFAIK the syntax seems to be the same.

    def sayHam():
        print("Ham")

    sayHam()

    works when typed into the Python console, no class needed. I program as a hobby, I'm no expert on the language, but does Python even differentiate between functions and class methods internally? Other than just scope? There's a possibility I'll learn something today.

  • What it would look like is a badly themed badly optimized front end that isn't in the App store, was recently removed from the Play store, with a rape awful name like CLIT or CL Isn't Tinder or LibreMeetCute and a nonsense icon. It would rapidly become recognized as the engine used by the huge number of extremely sketchy personals sites that popped up all of a sudden that contain only virtual prostitutes. It would also be the engine that powers Truth Romance. It would have the worst Github issues page in human history.
