  • Not sure these are communities that I would like to see on Lemmy necessarily, but they are stuff that I have no space to discuss here:

    • political organization design
    • fermentation
    • fine dining and cooking
    • videogames design theory and videogames critique
  • I have a notion setup organized around tasks, calls to organize, and clients.

I have several view and attributes to fit the tasks to my workflow.

I have a daily routine and a weekly routine template that gets added to the task list regularly with custom views for each action. This includes reviewing the email inbox, the calendar, the long-term backlog, and many other things. I then end the daily routine by estimating among the open tasks, the most important and setting a workload for the day.

  • In my experience it is the total opposite: the habit of individual, culturally-oriented actions cultivates a normalization of symbolic, small-scale actions and prevents people to develop a taster for collective action. Once they hit the limit of what they can do alone in the cultural sphere, instead of asking themselves how to overcome these limits, they just ignore collective forms of action to keep repeating the same individualistic and symbolic actions. Most people who show up and take initiative in collective efforts almost always have no history of engaging with symbolic actions and emancipating themselves from that mindset. There are a few, but it's by far the exception.

  • I'm one of them. I went from thinking naively that consumer politics matter to leaving my career to fight big tech, unionize tech workers, and for a year or so I've also worked on limiting the harm of generative AI specifically.

If I thought this petty stuff would do anything, I would have probably wasted a lot of time in the wrong hole.

  • Performative politics have been proven to have a paralyzing effect on people. If you feel you're doing something and it has no impact, you just disengage from meaningful politics because you already absolved yourself.

  • The AI sector is not pushed by consumer money. A consumer strike won't alter at all the macro-dynamics happening at the moment. If you want to resist AI, go blow up some data center or unionize some tech workers.

You're making a moralistic point, blaming consumers instead of corporations, which leaves not much room for action.

  • it's your life, you decide. You can also decide not to give it meaning.

  • Here I see a lot of people who have been served badly prepared game. For any meat that tastes too gamey, if you're not sure how to prepare it, there are some tricks that work pretty much everytime:

    1. Make an infusion of ginger by boiling it for half an hour. Lot of ginger, the water must taste spicy. Then soak the meat in it overnight. It won't really live a gingery taste in the meat, so it's good for most preparations.
    2. Don't roast, but braise. Red wine, juniper berries, rosemary, cloves, bayleaves, and laurel are good with most wild animals and musky meats: deer, wild boar, mutton, rock goat, etc etc. Sheepmeat and goatmeat can also go with a lot of cumin, turmeric, chili, cinnamon and cardamom, if you want a more central Asian vibe.
  • Broke my elbow twice: one time at like 7 sliding down a hill and one time at like 13 doing a overhead kick playing soccer. Slit the skin of my head open at 8 after being pushed by a classmate against the base of a decorated column. Lot of blood, many stitches.

  • I would argue the title implies "leaving the tech industry", and in the beginning it says the article is for who wants to still work with the same skillset, but outside of the tech industry as in the companies who produce technology for profit. Probably only the tech co-op part can be said to be still within the tech industry

  • There's plenty of neo-nazis in the Free Software movement. It's "Free Software", not "Free People"

  • it's source available, and most of the code is public, but you cannot contribute or fork

  • it's not open source

  • protestantism for techbros. Boring. No machine will come and save you, just go to therapy instead.

Also the future is built, not predicted.

  • Money is not a measure of power. Power is always relational, positional. You can position yourself better and build relationships using money, but you can also waste a lot of it to gain very little power.

It's ultimately about what actions you enable for the people who side with you, and money is a great enabler, but if we are talking about private entrepreneurs, usually the vast majority of their wealth cannot be freely allocated to political projects, but it's blocked to generate further capital. The portion you decide to spend to garner political, social and mediatic capital, and how you spend it, matters more than your total wealth.

  • Rodrigo Nunes.

There's no self-organization, neither in politics nor anywhere. There's no spontaneity. Political change is a function of environmental conditions and systemic decision-making.

Fascism is a symptom of chaos and lack of order. Political action is the creation of order (organization) towards coexistence.

Politics is a conflict of forces, not a conflict ideas: it consists in constructing the powers necessary to alter the existent (potentia) and deconstructing the power that keeps things the same (potestas). Anything that happens and doesn't alter this balance of power between potentia and potestas is simply a reproduction of the present in a different form.

  • Contrary to most people, most of my thoughts are in the form of a dialogue. When it's a monologue, it's still a monologue delivered to a crowd. So the language basically depends on who I'm thinking to speak to. Sometimes the mechanism is faulty so I snap out and realize I would never speak English to a certain person.

For context, I'm Italian, living in Germany with an American partner.
