  • I'm not the person you were replying to, but the only issue I ever had using Jellyfin for music was that it seemed.a little finicky about matching artist/album when pulling down metadata, and I had to do more manual intervention.

The actual streaming functionality seemed perfectly fine, but I personally settled on Navidrome for music.

  • A good brownie with sea salt sprinkled on top is most definitely essential!

  • Have you had the banana cream Twinkies? Probably not as good as the OG ones, but definitely a nice treat when you come across them!

  • Would it blow your mind if I told you all the 2K sports games were released by 2K? 😁

  • Think of it like two groups of people in separate rooms with a large open window between them. Not everyone is trying to talk one on one to the other group all the time. And sometimes just feeling like you're in the same physical space can be nice.

It's not perfect, but in many circumstances it's worlds better than having tiny portable windows that mostly facilitate one on one conversation.

  • I've thought the same thing, Trying to hold a video call between families using a phone or even a laptop is such an awkward experience, especially if you want to just hang out virtually for an extended time like you said.

But it wouldn't even have to involve a separate box or docked phone. Everyone's got a smart TV that can run apps, so all it should take is a USB webcam with a decent far-field mic.

But yeah, in general I'm surprised this isn't more of a common use case.

  • This pretty petfectly illustrates the problem with using genAI for anything factual.

To someone who had no idea how a pressure regulator works, the illustration could actually be pretty convincing, since it's presented in a coherent way and superficially looks like it knows what it is doing.

But do a little fact checking, and it's wrong about nearly all of the important points. In fact its kind of impressive at just how thoroughly wrong it is.

Anyway, thank you, I'm going to save this image to whip out next time a coworker responds to a technical email with copy/paste from ChatGPT.

  • Like a lot of people have already said, people are complicated and contradictory; they are rarely one thing.

So you can judge him for, and learn from, the way he has treated other people, while also being grateful for the love, respect, and good parenting he has shown you.

Another aspect is that people often make mistakes and grow from those experiences. It might help you resolve some of the dissonance to talk to him about those things. Many people have experienced that having kids radically changes their priorities. Some people are fiercely loyal to a few people, but couldn't care less about everyone else.

  • There are kind of two different questions here.

First of all yes, humans are pretty good at telling whether someone is looking them directly in the eyes or not. So if you were to ask someone directly whether you are looking in their eyes or some other part of the face, they would probably be right most of the time.

The second part is whether they would notice it consciously without bring asked. That's a little trickier. I suspect if you were staring directly at some other part of their face, people might get self conscious (do I have a zit? Is my nose that huge?) But looking at a spot between their eyes, or shiftng your gaze periodically would probably fly under the radar.

  • There used to be a restaurant near me that served their patty melts with a ton of parmesan cheese on the outside of the bread like that. There's salty savory tang added by grilled sharp cheese is fantastic!

(Not that you need me to tell you 😉)

  • I love Biscoff cookies, but had never had them outside of a snack on a plane either. First time I realized they sold them at stores was when my local Costco started carrying them in giant boxes, which is a little like being Sir Gallahad the Chaste, and stumbling into the castle Anthrax.

Aldi has a pretty goof knockoff version in normal size packages if you have problems with moderation 😉

But to answer your question, a long time ago, my wife and I did the "Love you", "Love you too", "Love you.... three?" thing, and apparently got up to 5 before we decided it was silly. Many years later, "Love you five" is the normal response to "Love you".

  • Vot de fuk!?!?

  • Found the guy who is afraid to wear skinny jeans or use a normal diaper bag.

  • I can't tell if everyone else got whooshed, or if we're getting whooshed.

  • Yep, they are convection ovens on steroids when it comes to the amount of airflow.

I was firmly on team "LOL it's a baby convection oven, big whoop" for years, but an actual purpose-made air fryer (not a toaster oven with air fry mode) cooks like an entirely different appliance.

  • The one thing Krispy Kreme has going for them is if you can get them fresh and warm, they are pretty damn good, and they generally make them fresh all day. But at least in my area, what they did is open a handful of locations where you could get them freshly-made, let those build some hype for a year or two, then close them down and sell the pre-packaged garbage in grocery stores and gas stations.

IMO they are still generally better than whatever other basic glazed donuts you can buy off the store shelf, but if there's a local bakery that sells fresh donuts though, 10/10 they will be better than Krispy Kreme.

  • You ain't got the balls! No. Balls.

I probably got that wrong, but it's also been at least 20 years since I last pressed those blender buttons.

  • The only correct answer besides Twizzlers and sunflower seeds.

I'm gonna go against the grain and declare for team Cheddar Pretzel tho!

  • I'm not sure if I pulled down that exact compilation, but it includes the videos, yeah I enjoy those old music videos as much or more than the show itself!
