  • Garmin watch with wireless pay. I use the venue sq but many in the Garmin line support wireless payment.

  • Lol I didn't even notice... I respect that

  • This needs to stop. I hope we get some follow up. Now I'm too invested in the memes and keep refreshing.

  • Do you think they regret asking yet?

  • I agree with you. However there should be recourse if the wider community on an instance agrees that there is a bad actor or community that needs to be banned. I'm fairly certain if we did a poll that the community would be banned.

  • Yeah just FYI if sh.itjust.works turns in to this kind of thing I will definitely move to a different instance

  • I think that is a mistake. Plenty of nice folks on this instance people shouldn't jump to conclusions. Also this discourse on that thread is really problematic. The idea of defederating a whole instance over 1 community is terrible. I would understand. If most of that instance was a troll den that is definitely not the case with this instance

  • lol I like how "back in the day" was two weeks ago LMAO

  • So yeah I just want to show what I am talking about something is completely weird. So if you are on a sh.itjust.works instance and view a community outside this one you see this :

Now here is the same block not logged into an instance:

See the stats are completely different. This is maddeningly confusing. They need to fix the stats overall. I am not sure that any place collecting stats could be right at this point.

  • I saw it mentioned somewhere that when you see subscriber counts for a community those counts only reflect the amount of subscribers from your instance. At least that is the way I understood it. I know that's not related to comments but there seems to be some ways that the federation work that is not great. Could it be that the comments are from an instance that your instance has de-federated from?

  • That's interesting 🤔 I wonder if something about the federated nature makes active users difficult to count accurately. I wouldn't say that Lemmy is a ghost town but there isn't as much participation as their could be. I'm not even sure how the stats define active to be honest. So there is a lot of unknowns about how that calculation is done.

  • It seems like the only people left on reddit will be jerks and trolls which is fine by me. You are in the right place ignore the haters.

  • I'm not sure email even does anything though. It will depend if that instance even has SMTP set up.

  • It's crazy that every point in history has its own blend of "suckitude" that don't want to deal with.

  • I have been using the freetube client for years to watch videos across multiple platforms. Maybe we could incorporate their method of having youtube be a first choice but allowing the user to pick other providers if they prefer?

  • I am aware of the other spelling. The "comradery" way agrees with my lazy American attitude a bit more. English is a strange language.

  • It's likely all this will change as the user base grows. However there are some distinct advantages.

    1. Having instances focused purely on certain topics or ethics makes it so you can join the communities that align with your ideas. while all these communities federate having a home base that aligns with your ethics is important. Also if any particular instance becomes overly trollish there is the option that your instance can defederate from them. While this is not ideal having smaller instances with a more homogeneous community means that it will be easier to lobby for things like that than a monolithic service.
    2. people at the moment are focused on building something that is community oriented and that people will want to use. Right now we have mods, power users, tech enthusiasts, and community leaders mostly. We don't have a ton of trolls yet. This will change but I think we can adapt to it.
    3. There is a sense of comradery. People are dusting themselves off after the collapse of a former community of bolstering each other. This will wear off. however hopefully by then the service is robust enough that people will have found their new communities and groups that they jive with.

  • ugh what good is invite only? at least let people pay like 5 bucks to see it.

  • yeah I get that. I tend to be a fairly active poster and commenter. We just need a slightly higher ratio of posters/commenters to lerkers. Nothing wrong with lerking as long as there are people to keep things moving.
