  • Yeah, that was weird to watch. Not sure if the speaker realizes how bad this new tech still looks.

And in the end he said that it is very important to use these AI models "with the full permission of the talent" and that they "had full access and the rights to the training data". He obviously just considers Harrison Ford in this moment, but does he realize what that would mean regarding the AI models and their training data they use? And was the presented short film also created with full permission of all artists contributing to the training data? Was this just a blatant lie to make it sound like they work responsibly with AI?

  • Well, AFD are especially advertising to young men and cis men are much more likely to have conservative values (because they benefit them much more). On the other hand, we have the leftwing emancipatory parties such as Die Linke that are inclusive of everyone else and that probably get more votes of marginalized people.

  • SPD is center and conservative, CDU is on the right to far right, AFD are fascists. So half of the young people voted for right-leaning to outward fascist parties. (Last Bundestagswahl young people also heavily voted for the FDP.)

I bet this has to do with the divide of young cis men and everyone else. But young people certainly aren't only voting for the left in Germany!

  • Yeah, I'll probably do the same :)

    Have fun with iNat!

  • Sorry, what? I don't understand what you mean :/

  • Oh nice, I've thought about contributing to osm for a long time but this makes it so much easier to do that!!

I've looked into what I can do in my close vicinity and there are many roads that still miss their width. However, the app suggests to install an app (streetmeasure) to measure the width. This app is however based on Google AR services (that don't work on my degoogled phone. How do you guys deal with that? Do you just ignore those tasks or do you guesstimate the road width by eye?

Oh, and another thing: If you like something to do on your walks, may I suggest also looking into iNaturalist (and the companion app Seek), too. While you are walking around you can find so much stuff out there that you've previously overlooked. When I go through any street now I spot bugs and plants everywhere!

  • I unfortunately don't know where to search :'( Do you have a hint for me?

  • Yeah, this quote is sooo wrong on sooo many levels :(

  • Sorry, I misread your question. Yes, google maps shows "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)" in Europe as well :(

  • ~No, it shows Gulf of Mexico. The commenter just wanted to give some good alternatives that people could use~

  • Do it

  • I'm all about defending ourselves and support violence against Nazis. But dehumanizing some people means you are generally open to dehumanizing people. And this can get problematic real quick...

  • Do it

  • Nope, dehumanizing anyone, be it Nazis or not, is always going to be problematic!

  • Thanks for the recommendations! Haven't read any of these books and after reading some reviews, I'm intrigued.

If you liked the details in Moby Dick about whaling, you may also be interested in this great BBC series I've discovered a few weeks ago: Inside nature's giants where they dissect large animals and explain their anatomy and evolution. There are also two episodes of stranded whales being dissected ;)

  • In how far does gender change in your hypothetical metric with transition. If I take hormones for example, I would influence this metric.

Another confusing point would be how you try tracking gender, but having a gender identity value inside the metric. How would you even track this gender then?

  • It is indeed reminiscent of all the western influencers being invited by armies, police forces or prison systems (especially in the US). They also get paid for portraying a highly idealized or fake image of these institutions. Albeit there is a difference in that these influencers know upfront what they are getting into. Wanting to vlog about e.g. harmless-looking Chinese lifestyle topics and it being made into propaganda is a bit more insidious.

  • My point is that it doesn't know for the reasons you gave. It is just hallucinating. So I don't think the answer is trustworthy. Of course, it seems like a reasonable answer, but how do you get to the conclusion that the answer is truthful? It could just be made up because that was what sounded the most likely to the AI.
