  • There's research. Theres a link to a 2022 paper in this article.

    One more

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/scotttravers/2024/03/29/dogs-understand-our-words-more-than-they-let-on-science-reveals/

There's also a whole mess of people who have taught dogs and cats to use buttons that say a word to have 2-way communication. So the dog will go press the button that says "outside" when they want to go out. Some get an active vocabulary of dozens of words.

What I love from these people is that dogs say exactly like what you think dogs would say. Outside, food, hi!, love, play and the like. Cats get bitchy. There's a few instances where multiple cats will have a button for "litter box" or similar. When you tell the cat something it didn't like, it goes over and presses "litterbox" as a kind of F you.

  • Cats can understand about 50-100 words in the primary language of the house.

Your cat knows when you bullshit them.

  • There better be a restaurant somewhere putting an egg on avocado toast and calling it that.

  • Avacado = Ah-vak-a-doooo

  • OK, but do you mean the actual text is from a story where this text is the gibberish that summons Cthulu? Or that it's a translated piece of text from that story that is now in Welsh?

  • I genuinely can't tell of this is real Welsh or just gibberish with a random '

  • Just turn them off and default to local IP. The Invidious API doesnt work right now.

  • YT broke the Invidious API last month, which barely worked to begin with.

Use your VPN for the thing it's meant to do and don't use any API. Just change the VPN to a non-primary location, and turn off the API or use the local IP fallback. If it doesn't work, change locations again until it works.

  • Yep.

It's very important to remember that between 1991 and 2001, the US saw 10 years of a world that was the epilogue of the End of History. We had won the Cold War, and while there were problems, they were largely distant, the politics fairly civil, things like the internet changing life quickly, and even the moments of hard times gave us great music. It took 2-3 years for the effects of Columbine and 9/11 to really change the country and world.

25 years is also not nothing. 25 years before 2001 was 1976. Star Wars was new. Ford was president. Disco was HOT. Apple and Microsoft were founded. Things can change a lot.

  • I use both all the time in the same VPN. Other then sometimes switching locations to find a good one, never a problem.

Are you using the Invidious API? Those are broke as hell.

  • The average person doesn't know how to use a VPN, either. They turn it on once, expect magic, and don't go beyond that.

  • 10/10

If you've never lived in a place where you complain about having speeds being throttled, then 2 guys come to your house with a full color printout of your internet use over the last few months, then walk around looking at everything you have and basically asking for a bribe just becaise, then you haven't fully understood the use case "masking traffic from your ISP."

  • You can't log in via redlib, IIRC. It is great just to read, though. I used it all the time.

  • Then explain why if I get this error, I switch locations and don't get it. I've been dodging this for 2 years.

VPN blacklists are chasing a moving target. Only truly bad VPNs with few exit servers and IPs would manage to get fully blocked across any location.

  • Change the VPN location.

The point of having a VPN is to use many locations.

  • Trevelor A. Deventure

But his middle name is also Adventure.

  • AWS server US-East 1 went down yesterday, causing a massive internet blackout. It was an internal oopsie, someone did something that caused a problem with DNS resolution. Basically, you go looking for something and the server was like "Uh...Oh, I should know this? Oh, shoot. Uh.... uh....I give up,I dunno."

The screencap is from the end of Blade Runner 2049, a movie about humans and "replicants" that are really good cyborgs. I won't spoil the movie for you, but it's a joke about AI in a context about AI kind of thing.

  • In Serbo-Croatian, the acronym is САД. It transliterates to SAD.

  • 1 million percent correct here.
