  • How do I explain my reluctance to use generative AI in good faith?

  • Don’t bring it up unless prompted or posing philosophical questions to family and friends. I once was creating a video for a client that sent me some generated images into the video that he thought were hilarious. I told him sorry, no, didn’t over explain and just said that he would need to hire somebody else if he wants those things. It’s not very hard. I always try to push for human artists and explain not only is it better for the ecosystem but for copyright reasons.

  • I think there are different seasons of life and different moods for wanting to listen to the world around. When I got into backpacking it becomes a pretty conscience decision when deciding to listen to a podcast or some music or go for 5 hours of silence. Live your life and go with the flow. If your tunes die, find a way to make a life lesson in some way or fashion that makes sense to you. Our ancestors were stuck with nothing but themselves and local community so I guess connect with your primal self.

  • When you say it like that and I think of my generation and younger that is stuck renting and student loans… maybe I don’t actually own much of anything and if this pattern continues for a long time I could lose everything? I wonder how many more are like me in the same boat. But yeah, for now, it’s not that severe. Thanks for the perspective and help.

  • Yes, you can. You can share an album and collaboratively each add to it or you can share the entire library and take photos directly out of theirs and add to a new album. So I believe you can accomplish what you want. Just tested it with my wife and I’s accounts.

  • Immich is great. The iPhone app is not trustworthy with syncing photos and always freezes. It will get there eventually, if you have the patience for crashes on the iOS app. In fact, for the last week the app just hangs on open, which usually means I need to re-install the app and all that. I have a large library of over 60k photos/videos and an older phone, which doesn’t help. Despite these issues, it’s still great. Every other feature works flawlessly. I haven’t tried this new update but I am hopeful and glad they are pushing forward with cleaning up syncing!

  • If you get the chance, don’t be afraid to ask. People are usually pretty clear on what they will respond to, if asked. If the accent or name is too hard, you can work with them on a compromise nickname that’s easier for you and that they agree to.

  • My only devil’s advocate to this is that phone cameras are already very prevalent and this is only a minor issue in society atm. Fuck camera glasses, though.

  • Have fun picking through the many options, haha. I just figured out Ghost (open source blogging platform) but it can easily be edited with static pages. It is basic but I am okay with the functionalities and ease of use
