  • Apparently I upvote a thousand times more than I downvote.

  • Well that's a mistake.

  • It's not just for coding either. Yesterday, my senior director used Google's AI to ask about the architecture to integrate one of our vendor products with our ERP system (usually my job). Fortunately the AI did me a solid and said "This is a highly complex integration 🤯".

Yeah... No shit, that's why so many of us are employed. Shit's complicated.

  • I honestly thought vibe coding was a joke until someone posted a video about it and then realized people were serious.

It's basically the equivalent to your friend who has a brilliant idea for an app and just needs you to do the coding for it - without having any clue how IT actually works.

  • That just got me thinking - you know how you can't read in dreams? You might be able to glance at something and go "yeah that's Exit sign". But if you really try to concentrate on reading something it's just a bunch of jibberish.

We've always written this off as different parts of your brain being responsible for dreaming and reading. But now that we've advanced our technology enough, it seems like maybe our dreams are just being created by some shitty AI.

  • Yep, I work for a smaller company and there's a FOMO rush to get AI everywhere. If you want to get a new project funded, it has to be AI. So now anything that is automated is getting sold as "AI".

  • Will report back. I used one a couple years ago, but it's since gone out of business. Like I said, yesterday I was having trouble sifting through all the slop to find an actual real answer. I signed up for a free trial of one and will respond if it's any good. I'm not holding my breath through.

  • I just realized how freaking bad this was - especially on Reddit. I was doing a search for IPTV providers. I checked reddit first, since in the last that has been a reliable way for finding people recommending stuff, not just whatever is search engine optimized.

Holy shit was it bad. Nearly every comment was AI slop. They all followed a very similar structure. Tons and tons of comments like:

Appreciate the share! LunoTV is great — super affordable and has tons of channels. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Appreciate the share! Xalvon IPTV offers tons of channels and the streaming has been really smooth on my devices. Good value overall.

LunoTV has been great for me. Tons of channels, really affordable, and easy to set up.

Luno TV has been great for me. Tons of channel selection is huge, and their app runs smoothly .

We're seriously getting to a point where we won't be able to search for anything due to AI fake results.

  • I was gonna say, when I was growing up my dad pirated that game for me and my brother by downloading it from a BBS. We thought it was just called "UFO Enemy Unknown". Then later XCOM 2 came out and we were like "wtf is an XCOM"?

Game's still dope as hell btw.

  • Of course.

  • Just wanted to chime in on how awesome The LEGO Movie is. A few years ago, we had a neighborhood get together where we projected a movie onto my neighbor's garage door for the kids. We setup chairs and blankets, and made popcorn.

We were watching the movie and all the kids were getting tired and people were slowing dispersing. Eventually, my wife asked "should we get going and put the kids to bed?" I said "Are you kidding me?! This movie is awesome!"

So yeah... She ended up taking the kids home and I stayed to watch the end of it.

  • Holy shit, this is the first time in Lemmy I've seen someone ask and obscure question and a person in a specialized profession answered. That used to happen on Reddit all the time, but I didn't think Lemmy had a critical mass of users.

  • Wait... Vibe projects are a real thing? I THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE JOKING!

  • I mean... not anymore.

  • I'm a dude and that still have me a physical reflex

  • I followed the #2 link he linked about cloud seeding. From the article:

Veteran Houston meteorologist Travis Herzog weighed in this week, calling the theory scientifically unfounded.

“Cloud seeding cannot create a storm of this magnitude or size. In fact, cloud seeding cannot even create a single cloud,” Herzog said. “All it can do is take an existing cloud and enhance the rainfall by up to 20% — and even that is on the high end.”

He compared the theory to blowing out a candle and assuming one could extinguish a wildfire. “It is a matter of scale,” he said.

It's pretty ballsy to provide a link with someone calling out your bullshit while acting as if that link proves your point.

  • I watched the whole movie thinking it was about COVID. Afterwards, my wife mentioned it was about climate change. I suppose the reality is, we're just awful at responding to any large threat.
