  • Cannot believe I forgot this. Absolutely incredible album. Every single tune a banger and such a unique sound.

They absolutely nailed the Zeitgeist with it.

  • Honorable mention goes to Moon Safari by Air. First time I heard every song on that album felt like I’d heard it before in a memory.

I still remember my first time hearing this too.

The dregs of a house party. Only a few chill people still up. Sun starts coming up and someone put it on. Absolutely perfect setting to hear that album for the first time.

I can immediately place myself in that room it seared itself into my memory with how well it hit.

  • I'll throw my few in here:

Lemon Jelly - KYPaul Simon - GracelandAir - Moon SafariPortishead - DummyAlt-J - An awesome wave

  • I'll tell you my little story. When I was fully immersed in it (you were sent home if you uttered a full sentence in English), I started dreaming in Irish. It was an amazing experience.

My mind had just switched and I loved it. I was 14 at the time and I still remember that. I had some trouble reverting to English after I came home. The more I switched over the years the less hassle it was. I never dreamt in Irish after the initial burst.

Conversely, I know a French lad about twenty years now who's been immersed in English longer than that and it's only in the last few years that he mostly dreams in English.

  • I wonder who's still paying for it.

  • True. I guess good intent and delivery is generally assumed with a gift but not always there. It's not implied in the post though.

There's a lot of important context missing but on balance, with the bits we do have, I think OP probably could have handled it with more sensitivity.

  • That's true, but I don't think that negates what was good intent. Plus we have no idea about delivery of the message from OP.

  • I can't even fathom what the cost of trying to implement a 51% attack on bitcoin would be.

  • That's such a ridiculous thing to agree to, knowing that a country with a veto was the most likely aggressor. :(

  • Spot on.

  • What an absolute load of nonsense. I have spent a decent amount of time in Qatar. I watched what were effectively slaves working away to build stadiums and hotels. It is a fair statement to point out the irony of a place with very strong censorship criticise censorship.

If the BBC lauded a foreign country for the equivalent of bloody Sunday I would point that out too so honestly just jog on.

Edit: just to reiterate, I agreed with the premise up front. It's not a bad article. That doesn't take away from a censorship heavy regime criticising censorship through their mouthpiece and I fully acknowledge that AJ is generally decent so no, it's not racism.

  • Not at all. I agree with the premise as I said so there was no whataboutism in there. I merely pointed out that a news source from a nation that allows nothing even vaguely approaching what the UK has, to be ironic.

  • I agree with the premise, but it's more than a bit of irony that this is coming from Al Jazeera.

  • €18 euro clown costume with €2 face paint for one. €3 cat in the hat costume from the school (which does costume recycling for money) for the other. They both looked great.

  • Oof. What in ignominious end for our old pal. :(

  • He did?!?

  • Sounds like you're crushing it! Well done and good luck with the Baccalaureate!
