  • I am more of a hobbyist when it comes to running software on Linux. That said, I usually end up being the guy who installs and manages software on work Linux servers, writes Ansible scripts to standardize configs, and troubleshoot when things dont work. Im not as advanced as you are, but got my fair share of pre-systemd headaches... so yeah, I completely agree with you.

  • I like systemd

    Awaiting the guillotine...

  • I also like to separate my work and personal life. I don't often enjoy small talk and still find I suck at it after years in the work force. I would rather work from home and not deal with people.

All that said, humans are tribal creatures who need interaction with others. I've found remembering names, asking them how their day is going, and showing a -vague- interest in them as a person is enough to get by most of the time. Even if I don't "want" to do it.

"Hey you said you were going golfing, how did that go?"

"Yeah, I spent most of the weekend doing chores and catching up on house projects."

"Have you seen the latest Netflix show?"

"Im not much into sports, but I heard our team is doing pretty well this year."

People remember those that treat them like a person. They also remember those that ignore them or otherwise invalidate them by not talking to them. If you want to have a job where you interact with people, you have to play the game.

  • I often use the phrase "that's definitely an oopsie. Maybe even an oopsie daisy" at work

  • I bought a 1200w power supply in 2013 that is still going strong. Daily driver I've moved from case to case as I have upgraded over the years.

  • Should have gone to the farmers market

  • I got a recumbent exercise bike, a pawn shop tv, steam deck, and a steam controller. I play whatever is loaded on my deck while I bike, usually for about 30-45 minutes at a time.

Right now I am playing Fall Guys while I exercise, as it keeps me entertained on survival for ~10 minutes per game.

  • This is probably my main issue. I have a technical problem, I provide detailed reasons why it is a problem, and propose solutions. I ask for feedback from the team, because I don't want to railroad people and appreciate multiple perspectives.

I'll try to be more succinct in my messages going forward, which are generally only 5 sentences or so. If this issue still persists I have another problem.

  • I like your style, internet stranger.

  • That is one of the things that makes lemmy unique - if you want to, you can spin up your own instance and make a community. It can even be the same name!

I am all in on decentralized social media at this point. I really dislike the ads, astroturfing, and fake accounts meant to boost brands.

  • The cosmic horrors persist, but so do I

  • I left reddit and deleted my accounts, post and comment history. I had modded a couple high sub communities there and felt it had become less friendly over the years. I initially joined in 2011 but only really started using it during the Digg exodus.

Lemmy feels like old school reddit. So I use it 99% of the time and only check some very specific subreddits when I need to look up something for work.
