I get myself a nice little treat and take a break. I treat myself like someone else who I'd try to cheer up
But honestly - sounds like you need a lot more than that if you are feeling all tangled up. It's helpful to unwind it all. With friends, with a therapist, even just talking to a stranger on the bus (or the internet)
Oh that's what that is 😅 I have that a bunch - was hard to describe as it's not sleep paralysis. It's often.... confusing... and occasionally disturbing but I'm a bit used to it at this point. It is so weird how it persists until the lights come on
I sat bolt upright in the middle of the night one time talking to the wall, kinda grumpily, and my partner was really disturbed.... trying to explain to her that the customs officer wanted something didn't really help that much.
Seeing bed bugs all over my whole body and everywhere in a grungy motel was pretty disturbing. And a hooded man in the corner, staring, during the middle of the night in a new persons' bed.
ADHD Brains are different - so some advice that works for non-ADHD brains may or may not work.
In general, being present and meditation (in whatever way that works for you, but, generally the practice of observing your thoughts as they go by but not reacting to them) are helpful for 'strengthening' your thought patterns. Becoming aware of things and building up that muscle is how you can have more of that willpower.
Habits can be very difficult to build, don't get discouraged. Find things that work for you and ways to incentivize or motivate yourself.
I used KBin first, the interface was great but (at least a monthish ago) the federation and community syncing was pretty rough on the instance I was on. Swapped to Lemmy and it's goin great. Wouldn't really consider tilde or rabble or the others - too small community and no chance to grow due to being in their own little closed off garden
Reddit changes all the time too. Posts are added, edited, deleted. If they don't find a way to monetize, soon, they also likely won't be able to pay for their storage indefinitely.
Reddit is just a website (and really just a forum with a special interface) that has been around for a decade+
The knowledge and accumulation came from users and time. Same as anywhere else
In case any folks who are on a lemmy instance instead of kbin see this post (Hello new users!), boost is a kbin feature, which is a different type of "software" than lemmy. The main kbin instance is https://kbin.social , which can interact with both Lemmy and Mastodon instances
tl;dr - kbin is different than lemmy. They all talk to each other though. Boost is kbin only
